A quintessential British gift

I recently visited my friend in Denmark and she gave me a large amount of Georg Jensen stuff (she works for them) making our house look utterly wonderful. However as a thank you I want to send her something quintessential British. I don't want to send food would prefer something for their home as they have recently moved.

Any ideas? Money wise up to £80 I guess

@AnotherEmma Great idea but will the plug work? They are having a new kitchen put in at th emoment so would fit well.

Perhaps I should have also mentioned this is my school friend we have known each other 40 years so a good friend.

Perhaps you can get Dualit toasters with European plugs. If not they could just use an adapter plug. Or (if they can be bothered) get the plug changed. We've done it for a couple of appliances and it's pretty easy.

But yeah probably a bit of a faff!
Still, the London collection certainly meets the "British" brief: www.dualit.com/campaigns/charlene-mullen-architect-panel-pack

Posh salt and pepper mills by a British brand like Cole & Mason or Robert Welch?

Justajot · 17/10/2019 22:51

If you were given Georg Jensen stuff, then I'd guess you might be able to go for something like a throw from here: www.wallacesewell.com. The reason I think of their stuff as quitessentially British is that they design some of the seat fabrics for London Underground and you can see that style in their other work.

Lovely but over budget

Justajot · 17/10/2019 22:58

Yes, the throws are over budget, scarves, cushions and accessories are within budget.

A toby jug and a selection of petrol station quality England flags from the last World Cup. Framed portrait of Tony Blair. A knitted doll thing to cover the spare loo roll.

Some immaculate but vintage Royal Doulton or Wedgwood.

The throws are beautiful @justajot

Right now we are 100% going with the gluggle vase as i think its fun and they will find it amusing. We are tempted by the dualit toasters too but what if she doesn't like it? Her husband is bound too (I don't know him as well they only married last year I have met him twice) though as its toast ...

The salt and pepper is a good idea too.

I sent Waitrose Duchy Christmas Puddings to friends abroad 😂

@Enko I know - Thornback and Peel have such gorgeous things.

The only other thing I could think of is a set of penguin classics as a gift - they have some really beautiful sets of the Brontë sisters or Dickins

I’ve just bought a Bronte by Moon blanket. It is lovely, I agree.
