Worried that we are doing this too early.

She's 14 and a labrador with arthritis in her hips, to the point where she has been struggling to stand up. Yesterday, for the second time in a week, she couldn't get onto her back legs. Kind of collapsed in a heap. Once she does get up she moves around (albeit slowly). Vet will be here in 90 minutes and as she lies here sleeping I'm starting to wonder if we are doing the right thing. Better a day too early than a day too late, isn't that the saying?

If the vet thought it was too soon they would tell you. I’m so sorry you have had to to do this but you love her so you need to be kind. Your sweet girl will have just gone to sleep and not known anything. It’s the worst part of loving an animal.

We had to do this for our cat after he lost the use of his legs. It's crap but objectively the best thing to do. Sending you ❤️ tonight.

I'm so sorry op. I'm dreading this with our old boy, he's been in poor health for a while now with one thing or another. It's such a hard thing to do but definitely the right thing Thanks

So very sorry. It's awful, I know. We had to let our beloved old boy go in January and it was the hardest thing I've ever done, but the kindest thing for him. We take on the pain so they don't have to.

I'm so sorry. There's nothing like a dog's love, is there? Flowers

I found this poem helped when I put my beloved dog went.

I'm so sorry Flowers you absolutely did the best thing for her.
I went through the same in March. I was utterly devastated. Be kind to yourself. I think losing your dog is one of the worst kinds of grief.
