Are they any good? Or will they be consigned to the back of the cupboard and thrown away in about a year?

They're crap. I was swayed and bought two lots. Total shit. In fact if anyone wants some, don't buy them, I'll send you mine. If I can find them...

KatharinaRosalie · 16/10/2019 15:54

I agree. Total shit. Impossible to get on and just pop off again. And certanly won't hold anything in, if you flip the container around, like the facebook ads promise.

BeanBag7 · 16/10/2019 16:00

I wasn't impressed. They either crushed the container (if it was flexible) or were impossible to get on (if it was rigid).
I bought a special smaller one that goes over the end of the cucumber. I usually just leave the end open and slice off the dry bit. It went mouldy really quickly with the silicone thing on.

SauvignonBlanche · 16/10/2019 16:01

I got some - they’re crap.

spiderlight · 16/10/2019 16:14

I've found mine really good! Used them loads.

AfterSomeAdvice1234 · 16/10/2019 16:18

I find the beeswax ones better - and you can make them yourself!

Ohyesiam · 16/10/2019 16:21

I got some which are rubbish, but I assumed I’d got the cheap useless version. Not so sure now.

bruffin · 16/10/2019 16:26

Ive got some and they are really good, think it depends on the size of the bowls

dingit · 16/10/2019 16:28

Mine are crap and I got them after watching a really slick demo at the cake and bake show. When I got home they were cheaper on amazon ( surprise surprise) Angry

Digestive28 · 16/10/2019 16:29

We just use a Pringles lid, fits perfectly over tins and everything else in Tupperware. I don’t even like the beeswax things as don’t go in dishwasher

megletthesecond · 16/10/2019 16:29

I've got Food Hugger lids. Love them.
Use them for my overnight oats and other pots. Not quite as good for for fruit but are fine for a lemon for a couple of days.

Massively cut down on cling film. The beeswax wraps are better for wonkier shaped items.

MrsPear · 16/10/2019 16:31

Why not just a plate on top of the bowl?

MrsPear · 16/10/2019 16:32

And I thought food from a tin should not be kept open in a tin?

morrisseysquif · 16/10/2019 16:32

Use a plate or a saucepan lid.

Elbbob · 16/10/2019 16:34

Bit fiddly. Not quite the solution to not using cling film I was hoping for.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/10/2019 18:04

I got some from ikea that work really well. Or I put a plate over, or an old cocoa tub lid on a can. Or decant into a plastic tub.

We still have cling film in the house, but we've had it for at least 2 years. We also have a roll of foil that we brought home from holiday over a year ago and I know the cling film is older than that and there's about half a roll left of each. I can't get too excited about that level of usage to be honest.

SamBeckett · 16/10/2019 18:13

I use bees wax cloths , tinfoil or yoghurt tubs

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 16/10/2019 18:14

Absolutely pointless, IMO. I was given some as a gift and they have, so far, fitted zero containers without popping off (in one case quite spectacularly) a few seconds later...

saltysally · 16/10/2019 18:40

I really like them for use in the microwave and on saucepans etc.

cannycat20 · 16/10/2019 18:43

Pringles lids are a good idea, we've used coffee can lids as well (when we're not using the empty coffee cans themselves as additional storage that is).

timshelthechoice · 16/10/2019 18:49

I love them. I hate the beeswax ones because they can't go in the dishwasher.

Oldraver · 16/10/2019 19:05

I've bought Cover Mates. Ive yet to wash a nd re-use so dont know how they will fair

ThatLibraryMiss · 16/10/2019 19:52

The were very difficult to get on but the worst feature, for me, was that they didn't go in the dishwasher. So they went in the bin instead.

Valkarie · 16/10/2019 20:32

I love mine and have massively cut down on cling film use. I don't know the brand, they are green with a lip around the edge and tabs to pull over the bowl more easily. They are definitely not as stretchy as the picture on the box implied and I haven't tried turning it upside down to test the seal, but cling film wouldn't hold that either. I have one beeswax wrap and used a couple of times, but it did let too much air into sandwiches for work, so they were dry by lunch.

KatharinaRosalie · 16/10/2019 20:37

The IKEA ones are different. I meant this type that really does not work as advertised www.amazon.co.uk/Silicone-Premium-Flexible-Reusable-Preserves/dp/B01M7VHM9X?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
