Balloon companies - environmental thoughts

I’ve noticed over the last year or two the large number of start up companies offering personalised balloons nd balloon event dressing.

In the day of environmental concern aren’t these some of the worst offending items?

I don,t mind the odd baloon what really gets my goat is balloon releases.

stoplickingthetelly · 15/10/2019 20:27

Oh gosh yes @june2007 I can’t quite believe people still do balloon releases.

bakesalesally · 15/10/2019 20:35

I guess people can't see beyond a blown up balloon decoration.

It's more single use plastic.

We don't buy them

Woodlandwitch · 15/10/2019 20:37

Single use plastic and really with no actual useful job at all

I was at a wedding recently with huge balloon arches all around the dance floor.

I was shocked. Even before I was so aware of the environmental impact I'd have expected my friend to have better taste Grin and not to waste money something so nasty but to see them now, it changed my view of her I'm afraid.

Cuddling57 · 15/10/2019 20:49

Yes they do seem silly now we know the environmental impact. Are the foil ones just as bad?
Huge potential in the market for environmentally friendly ones!

The frivolous use of helium is a problem too

No. And I think this constant picking on one type of item - like straws as well for example - is not really the way forward. The problem lies with all the superfluous packaging imo - mainly tiny items in big packaging, unnecessary packaging (I work in a school and opened a new pack of rubbers yesterday - they come in a cardboard box but each single one is wrapped in pointless plastic) and packaging that is much greater than necessary because it gives the illusion that there will be more product inside. Until that’s addressed properly I refuse to get wound up about balloons and other things that, although they serve only a superficial purpose, have a purpose nonetheless.

Aren't most balloons made of latex or foil?
