Need a mathematic brain - maternity pay!

Can someone give me a worked example of this? I’ve read it several times but brain is frazzled (I blame IVF meds).

Ie - how long in practice would I need to be working there before being getting pregnant?

To receive the first 16 weeks company maternity pay at your full rate of pay, you need to have worked at CompanyX for at least 26 weeks when you enter the 15th week before your baby is due

You could be working there 1 week

1 week + 40 weeks pregnant is you being 26 weeks pregnant 15 weeks before your due date

However I would wait a couple of months just in case of early delivery etc

Sorry to put it another way

40 weeks less 15 weeks is 25 weeks. So if you were pregnant the day you started you would be a week short of the criteria

Not very long - the policy seems to be more or less that if you are pregnant when you start there you won’t get the pay but if you get pregnant when already employed you would.

26 weeks + 15 weeks = 41; expected due date is normally in week 40. So a month should be plenty - a fortnight at a push.

It just seems too good to be true if that’s the case......

It is an employer known for being a top place for women to work so maybe it’s not!!

Basically, to be sure, you need to become pregnant when already working day. So if the first day of your period is your first day at your new job you'd be covered.

It does sound too good to be true to have an enhanced package almost as soon as you start working there but I can’t see how it can be saying anything else from what you’ve posted?

I don’t think that makes sense at all anyway let it begin- if you started work 10 weeks pregnant on the 15th week you’d have been working for them for 5 weeks not 26

These are the same rules as for SMP.

You need to not be pregnant when you start. That’s all.

It's not that uncommon... I had 12 weeks full pay and didn't even qualify for SMP!

The 15th week before your baby is due is the 25th week of pregnancy (usually).

Actually I've miss understood I have no clue you can go on www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave/eligibility and pop your dates in will give you the right answer

I’m kind of glad to see folk have tried and got it wrong as it’s confusing!

I take comfort from @needanexpert doing this for a living - if that’s the case that’s amazing news for me

(Yes I’m aware of the ethics and professionalism etc, just looking at the timing of a potential frozen embryo transfer and weighing up career vs personal demands at the moment)

You need to have at least 26 weeks service by your 25th week of pregnancy.

You basically can’t start the role pregnant but any time after is fine for maternity pay.

You need to have worked there for 26 weeks by the time you are 25 weeks pregnant I.e. you cant start the job already pregnant in order to qualify

I’ve just dealt with someone who started, got pregnant that week, but was poorly and needed a planned c-section at 37 weeks. She isn’t eligible for anything as the planned date is the c-section date. Nothing we can do. So allow a bit of a buffer if you can.
