My three year old has been ill for over a month

12th September she got a heavy cold and cough. As that ended she got another cold type virus, this time with very loose poo (not diarrhoea as not going more frequently but was the consistency of diarrhoea). Started to recover from that but her nose had a sore patch from being wiped so often, it then went all crusty and she had impetigo. Started applying cream for that, two nights later she woke up with croup. Two nights of croup but fine during the day, now she’s absolutely streaming with cold again and coughing and spluttering non stop.

I know it’s the time of year/being at preschool but I just want her to be well again!

I feel for you.
unfortunately as you know this is totally normal.

is she sleeping well?
eating ok?
running about outside every day?

BecomesHelen · 15/10/2019 15:40

Yes she’s sleeping well overall, a few nights with each bout where the cough is waking her but otherwise ok.

She’s had a few days of not wanting to eat much, but again, mostly eating well.

Activity levels much the same as usual, although she’s had a few days off preschool ill she has still been bouncing around at home.

I think there's a bug going round. My DD has done vomiting > viral high temperature / wheezing (ended up in A&E on advice of GP) > loose nappies. It's taken 2 1/2 weeks to get her anything like back to normal. I'm guessing it's all the same bug working it's way through her system. We've still got the runny nose and sore skin around her nose. The green pack extra soft tissues help soothe that.

We're landing the blame firmly on nursery but our annual leave has taken a battering.

As you know, it's that dreaded time of year 🙈 Not much you can do besides give a daily multivitamin and encourage good hand hygiene.

It sucks though doesn't it Sad

kmammamalto · 15/10/2019 15:52

Does she take a vitamin? It really worked for my DS last winter. He has a little chewy one every day which he loves.

BecomesHelen · 15/10/2019 16:11

Thanks everyone. Yes she started taking a daily vitamin with the first cold, hopefully she’s going to have a really strong immune system after all this!

Aw it's awful isn't it. I felt like my DS was ill constantly for the first two years of his life. Felt like he had a high temp every week, measles, chicken pox etc.
Feed healthily and plenty of sleep. On the days she doesn't eat much give vitamins. I'm always wary of giving vitamins everyday as my DS had too high a level in his body - can't remember what but doc told me to stop giving them to him.

Bless her. We went through this last winter. My then 3 and baby were I'll from October until march. My son was 14 months old in march and ended up in hospital with a patch of pnunomia. I cut my daughters down and we happened to be going on holiday for 2 weeks to Dorset coat. Both kids by time we got back were healthy and clear of snot and chesty coughs. They have had 3 mild colds in 5 months and are so much healthier now. That said she's at school now and winter is coming up

She has a halbiorange vitamin and a chocolate probiotic ball every day. Not sure of that's helping.

I feel for you because it really gets you down when you feel your stuck home feeling rubbish for weeks on end. X

Mumof21989 · 15/10/2019 16:45

So sorry for all my typos. I cut my daughters nursery hours down that should say. also ill not I'll. Xx

Dorset coast. My phone loves to change words. X

I remember this when my ds1 started preschool. He brought a new bug home every week during the autumn term.
Unlike your little one he wasn't ever very ill, just a bit grumpy occasionally. The only time I had cause for concern was when he got slapped cheek as the rash came on so fast!
However I was not as lucky. My poor lungs spent months drowning in mucus and my asthma, which hadn't given me any trouble in years, came back with a vengeance.
Just make sure you're well stocked with Calpol!

I remember my older two having perma snot at this age but don’t remember it being any worse than that. Maybe I’m looking back with rose tinted glasses!
