Help please! I am becoming godmother to a 1 year old boy next weekend and due to brain fog and having been hospitalised level of illness ive only just managed to compute that I really have to get a present in the next day or two.

I homemade his older sister's christening present but am not really up to doing the same at the moment unless it's super easy and I can get the resources easily.

It also needs to be fairly inexpensive because I'm skint due to being on ssp at the moment Sad

Friends are wealthy.

...Argh!

Jaques of London do a wooden shape sorter on Amazon that's £8, they always have great presentation packaging that looks miles more expensive than the items are!

I got a lovely set of silver toddler cutlery with a name inscribed on it for a christening once

Super cheap. I think I spent about £6

I think it was from store but if you google named christening cutlery it should come up

I almost always buy a children's bible and usually either a wooden Noah's Ark or the Playmobil 123 one.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't be doing with the 'silver cutlery' sets or anything like that which will never get used. I think something handmade by yourself will be lovely - why don't you get a nice card and make a 'voucher' for the thing you made before. If you're being Godmother I'm sure you are close enough to the parents to explain that you will make it when you are feeling better.

A children's Bible - the Jesus storybook Bible Amazon £15 is a lovely version that will be enjoyed throughout childhood.

Justmuddlingalong · 15/10/2019 12:55

Oh the places you'll go book, Dr Seuss.

BlueChampagne · 15/10/2019 13:12

A book of prayers for children, illustrated bible, or illustrated bible stories.

OctoberLovers · 15/10/2019 13:16

How about your favourite book when you was a child.

Bible, spoons, Noah's ark, blah blah, they will receive loads !

Charlie Mackesy’s new book. It is perfect and will be loved by children and adults. He’s a Christian artist so it’s ‘appropriate’ for a christening, and it’s a beautiful thing.

Charlie Mackesy Book The Boy...

gonewiththerain · 15/10/2019 13:24

Some brio or the cheaper Big Jigs version will be played with for years and can be added to for Christmas and birthdays.
It’s the toy that my ds never bores of and plays with every day.

If they own a home with a garden, buy a sapling tree - you can get them from as little as £8 (treesbypost.co.uk)

Add a lovely card about watching godson grow and blossom over the coming years- job done.

We usually get books- nice illustrated copies of classics. Often Narnia, but we've done Jungle Book as well. Something they may actually use when they are bigger.

(My eldest daughter received a bottle of whisky, which we are keeping for her 18th)

Slaymill · 15/10/2019 13:48

A silver compass with christening date engraved lots of places do while you wait. Something to keep through his life .

QueQueQue · 15/10/2019 13:50

One of the nicest christening gifts we got recently was a star named after DC ⭐️
Think it's about £15?

WellardAvocado · 15/10/2019 23:08

You are all fabulous!

Although I met the religious criteria to be Godmother I'm not very religious so although a bible felt appropriate it didn't feel right.

I think his parents and big sister (and hopefully him when he's older!) will really appreciate the Charlie book, and I've been meaning to buy to support the author who I think is wonderful, sov thank you for that suggestion.

You've sorted Christmas for him from me at the same time too, so thank you! ❤

I'm not a fan of silver keepsakes. The best christening presents DD received were all books. And they were read to her over and over again.

Her silver tat keepsakes are in in a box in the loft somewhere.

And please don't name a star or anything ridiculous like that.
