Is it worth dp getting vasectomy. I'm 47 !

My dp has got to have an operation. He has two cysts in his testicles. He ( we) have always wanted a vasectomy, but he had been too chicken to go for it. So he thought he might kill two birds with one stone ( so to speak :0). I'm 47 , periods still regular , but cycles are shortening now ( about every three weeks, before they were 28 days, always)- so I think changes are imminent ,in regard to the menopause ?. The vasectomy will cost about £800 ( which tbh , could be spent in other ways, but we could afford of we needed it ), but also there are three side effects that may come from the op, that I'm worried about.
So in a nutshell,I guess what I'm asking , would you suggest that given my age, would you recommend her go for it ?

Honestly, no.

There is a risk of chronic pain associated with vasectomy. There was a poster here who suffered from it - I'll try find a thread. The risk is actually not that tiny either. Small, but not tiny.

In your situation, that would make it too much risk for me and coupled with the money thing I would think the best all round option would be to carry on with other contraception for a few years.

At 47? Hell no. I'd be worried about side effects and it seems crazy to go through all of that when you're so close to menopause.

Here's one.

The poster I was thinking of is TheFuzz.

Obviously this is a worst case scenario and most men have no issues, I'm completely aware of that! HOWEVER- 10% chance of long term pain? No. Too high a percentage for something that could have such devastating consequences.

Yes, that is what I have been thinking, thank you.

I think chances of permanent groin pain are more like 1-2% not 10%. Still too high in my opinion. Check out www.reddit.com/r/postvasectomypain for links to stories from people this has happened to.
