Over 50, no periods for 3 years and then bleeding. Leave it or not?

I’ve woken up today with bright red blood. Not a lot though - about a teaspoon. Now it’s light pink.

I’m in the menopause and have been on latest HRT for over 6 months. Had one episode of this a month or so after I started it so put it down to hormonal disruption from changing drug. No repeat until today. I’ve not had periods for about 3 years and am pushing 60.

If bleeding stops today and is another one off do I right it off as one of those weird things or see GP? It will trigger off a hysteroscopy within 2 weeks If I go. Just not sure what to do so any advice appreciated.

Forgot to say I’ve been on HRT for 6 years.

I’d pop and get some advice from whoever prescribed you the HRT.

Thanks. I’d have to see or request a GP call as it was prescribed as an alternative to my old drug when that was discontinued by manufacturer.

All post Meno bleeding should be looked into, you'll probably have an ultrasound first

Rosie102 · 14/10/2019 12:06

I wouldn't leave it. It can be a sign of something untoward. Go to your G.P. and ask for their advice. They can do bloods to check your CA125 levels and do scans (both of which I've had recently and weren't scary at all) just to double check that everything is as it should be. Good luck x

Thanks. Yes I’d best not risk it. The only thing that’s changed is I’ve taken paramol for a disc problem which I’ve never taken before but have phoned pharmacy and chemist said it’s not anything he’s aware of from that drug.

Best to check it out OP.

Why would it trigger an emergency hysteroscopy? That sounds like you’ve had some issues in the past...

NoSauce · 14/10/2019 13:19

To check the uterus, any bleeding after the menopause is usually checked out pretty quick ime.

Outermongoliaagain · 14/10/2019 14:59

Hasthissodding years ago pre-meno) I had bleeding in between periods and because i was over 45 I was told they’d need to do a hysteroscopy. I had that done and two polyps were found and removed. They were both benign and I was discharged after they were removed. So I just presumed that they would do another hysteroscopy because of my age?

I would get it checked. Always worth getting unusual bleeding checked.

Outermongoliaagain · 14/10/2019 17:06

catnidge thanks. I will. The only thing stopping me phoning tomorrow is that I’m due to visit family overseas next week. I’ve already taken out travel insurance for the existing conditions I have and think if I have to phone now and add that I’m being investigated for unexplained bleeding the insurance will be far more expensive than the flight and I can’t afford that. So I’m thinking and hoping that 2.5 weeks won’t make a difference in the long run. I’ve not seen my family for ages and my DB has a landmark birthday. I think I’d not have started this thread if I wasn’t booked to go because I have looked forward to this for a long time .
