Should a cleaner move the coffee table when vaccing?

It’s a normal rectangular coffee table. Wooden but not especially heavy.

When I say moved I mean pulled across the carpet by a foot or two so that all the crumbs underneath it can be vacced.

I wouldn't expect them to move furniture during cleaning.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 14/10/2019 11:44

No unless you specifically asked them too

NoSauce · 14/10/2019 11:44

Yes. My old cleaner used to vaccum and mop around things that could be easily moved and that’s one of the reasons she doesn’t clean anymore!

Yes, it’s a light coffee table, not a huge sideboard, of course they should move it if they can’t swivel the hoover head to get under it

BlackCatSleeping · 14/10/2019 11:46

Just ask them to do it next time.

lovetheweekends · 14/10/2019 11:46

Yes definitely. I move my coffee table when vacuuming my living room.

HollowTalk · 14/10/2019 11:49

Yes - how can you clean beneath it otherwise? "Moving furniture" makes it sound as though she's got to shift a huge wardrobe. Moving a coffee table should be within any cleaner's capabilities.

dementedpixie · 14/10/2019 11:50

I can Hoover under mine without moving it

PanicInAmerica · 14/10/2019 11:51

Exactly. I’m not expecting her to move the sofa, or move the TV stand. It’s a coffee table which I have just shifted and vacced underneath in the space of about one minute.

She doesn’t seem to have vacced in the corners or behind the doors either.

Hmm. Might have to give another company a try!

I would say occasionally but not every time.

PanicInAmerica · 14/10/2019 11:51

You have to move it to clean under it as it has a very low shelf.

Akire · 14/10/2019 11:52

Yes it’s a normal thing to do surely. Do you not hoover underneath it until a spring clean once a year?

NoSquirrels · 14/10/2019 11:52

Well, if the crumbs are still underneath it after cleaning, then it hasn't been cleaned properly. So that would be an issue.

But if the cleaner can hoover the crumbs up without moving it (if it isn't a solid table), then it probably doesn't need moving?

Akire · 14/10/2019 11:53

If not least get the hoover attachment and get crumbs from just under.

DogAndCatPerson · 14/10/2019 11:53

Not unless you’ve clearly specified they should, no.

NoSquirrels · 14/10/2019 11:53

X-post.

Well, just point it out, eh?
"Cleaner, it looked like under the table and round the edges/behind the doors didn't get done. Are you struggling for time, shall we have a look at the list of jobs?"

Azzizam · 14/10/2019 12:34

Feel sorry for cleaners who get moaned about online when the client won't just be pleasantly direct about what they want.

RolytheRhino · 14/10/2019 12:39

Yes. They're paid to clean so should do a thorough job.

Skyejuly · 14/10/2019 12:54

Depends if stuff was on it or not.

NoSauce · 14/10/2019 12:55

Why? It’s not like they’re being named and shamed! They have eyes and can see what needs doing!

peachescariad · 14/10/2019 12:58

Absolutely yes

Azzizam · 14/10/2019 13:26

Nosauce and the client can just ask surely. How difficult is it to ask for goodness sake! Raw nerve?

NoSauce · 14/10/2019 13:31

Of course the client can ask, that wasn’t your point though was it? You said you feel sorry for cleaners being moaned about online?

PanicInAmerica · 14/10/2019 14:52

Nothing was on the coffee table.

I didn’t realise I had to ask, to be honest. I’d never dream of just vaccing around it!
