Leaking nappy help

DS is 2.3 years old and is frequently wetting through his nappy at night. He's 15kg and in size 7 pampers. I make sure his penis is pointing down, he's in a sleeping bag so isn't fiddling with it during the night, I've tried a reusable nappy wrap on top and none of it works. When this has happened before I've gone up a nappy size but I'm struggling to find bigger.

He's very resistant to potty training and DH has just gone away with work for 6 weeks so I don't feel now is a good time.

Any suggestions? I'm open to trying reusable nappies if it will help.

It's possible the nappy is too big. My son the same age wears 4+ and he's tall for his age. Maybe try the night time pull ups for bedtime?

DreamingofSunshine · 14/10/2019 10:22

I tried those @Crystal87 and they were even worse.

I agree that seems a very large nappy. Have you tried the pampers nappy pants? I find they give a good snug fit. Other suggestion would be one of those bamboo booster pads used in reusable nappies. Look on the nappy lady website.

I'm in the exact same position with my daughter. Pull ups are worse like you say, and she's in size 6 Aldi nappies. The last two morning have been bed stripping wet ones! Not a clue what to do.

GymNovice · 14/10/2019 10:26

It might be that it is too large or you're doing it up too tight. Counter intuitive, but it solved the issue for us.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 14/10/2019 10:31

Are you giving him a big drink before bed?

Buyitinbamboo · 14/10/2019 10:45

Have you tried a plus nappy? My DD is 3 and still in nappies at night time (ahhh when will that end!) and she wears a 6+ from Aldi. I have tried a 6 and a 7 and they both leak, she needs a plus because she does a lot off wee!

Starrynights86 · 14/10/2019 10:46

I think the nappy is too big, my 2 yr 4 month old is 15 kgs too and in size 5.

DreamingofSunshine · 14/10/2019 11:08

The smaller nappies are worse for leaking, including pull ups and the plus versions.

DS is very big, he's in 3-4 clothes and is very solid so a size 5 barely does up.

You can nappies for older children ( both night time pull ups and nappy style) but I think they will be far too big for your son. Have you tried doubling up or wearing pants over the nappy as this can keep it in place better.

DreamingofSunshine · 14/10/2019 12:28

I'll try that Underhisi, and I've just done the nappy lady questionnaire as I'd be happy to switch to reusable.

We found reusable nappies with a fleece wrap and a booster pad worked really well at night, despite the lack of waterproofing on the wrap. Heavy wetting son wet through everything else, this kept him dry all night. This was a long time ago, so not sure what the current nappies are, but the Nappy Lady would definitely be able to advise. We used Tots Bots cotton nappies (size3 at that weight I think) with an extra thick booster and a Tots Bots fleece wrap. During the day, Tots Bots with a Motherease airflow wrap - possibly a size 2 during the day. No booster. HTH - good luck with finding a solution.

Celebelly · 14/10/2019 13:11

We use TotsBots Bamboozles with two Peenut pads and fleece liner with wrap over and that does DD 12-13 hours overnight.

Is he wearing a vest or particularly close fitting bottoms? I've found if they are a bit tight it makes leaks worse!
I'd consider putting two on him, top one back to front.

Lidl nappies with the magical tubes distribute the wee more evenly so they hold more. They’re the only ones that don’t leak on ds

MissMooMoo · 14/10/2019 14:11

We have the same issue, DS turned 2 at the end of May.
He currently wears a 6+ to bed, pampers as all the other brands are worse.
I have noticed he is actually dry most mornings but floods his nappy with a massive wee pretty much as soon as he wakes up and we have to change the nappy and the bottoms immediately.

We used to use re useable nappies in the day but we had to stop when he was about 20 months as he was such a heavy wetter.

I have no advice but sending sympathies.
