Talk me out of buying this plane ticket and leaving next week?!

Hi everyone. I was living abroad until 3 months ago when I came back to my hometown and moved back in with my parents. The reason is a mixture of mental health issues and because my last employer stopped paying myself & my colleagues, leaving us with no money.

So I have spent 2 months job hunting, almost all day every day. I've had 3 interviews, including a 2nd interview. I thought it went well & was told I would hear but they never contacted me. I am feeling very down.

I am now tempted to go back to my old city abroad (which I LOVE) for a few weeks to work in a couple of Autumn camps teaching and offering workshops. I would be gone for 3 weeks and earn a decent monthly salary. I would need to find accommodation for a few days but the job is mostly residential and a good friend says I can stay a few nights with her too.

Am I being reckless and ridiculous? Should I just stay put until I find a job? I know my family has been really looking forward to spending my birthday with me this year as I am usually gone, and I will be gone again. But I feel like I am going stir crazy.

Go

MrsFezziwig · 13/10/2019 08:06

I think some posters are forgetting that you moved back in part for MH issues, but it doesn’t seem that the move has really helped you with this? In which case I would go back.

RunsForGummyBears · 13/10/2019 08:10

Go, if you decide to come back having your own money will make things easier.

candycane222 · 13/10/2019 08:16

Could you find another job and move back, do you think? Or was it never your plan to stay permanently? If it's only 3 weeks though, its not really derailing your job hunt that much, any more than taking a temp contract at home would be. You need to earn when you can - at least, most of us do!

candycane222 · 13/10/2019 08:19

Mrsfezziwig is right though, that's important too
Can you tell us a bit more anout what you think you need to help the MH situation?

Northernsoullover · 13/10/2019 08:22

I'd go and apply for jobs with a long closing date while there.

IncrediblySadToo · 13/10/2019 08:42

GO

Why do you need to ‘settle down in your hometown’ it sounds like it doesn’t suit you. THis is YOUR life, you’re the one who choses where & how to live.

It’s nit even as though you’re choosing to sleep under a bridge and beg for money, you’ll be employed and bupybthe sounds if it, more likely to get another job there after.

If it was you that posted the other day too, Ben go and buy the ticket today!

dappledsunshine · 13/10/2019 08:52

I vote go too....sounds like you have nothing to lose and you know where your heart is!

katewhinesalot · 13/10/2019 08:56

I can't see why you can't go back. You'll still be in the same position as you are now in a months time, but so what? You'll have more time in the city you love and will have something else constructive on your CV. You can apply for jobs whilst you are over there anyway. Perhaps you can Skype an interview even.

badgermushrooms · 13/10/2019 09:07

Go! And stop worrying about "putting down roots" in the town you grew up in. Your parents are there, that's roots, but you don't actually have to spend the whole of your life there. Let me guess, everyone is talking to you as though your job abroad was some sort of youthful fling but now it's "back to the real world"?

ChickenyChick · 13/10/2019 09:11

Go

Who cares about birthdays Anyway, once grown up?!

Go and have fun

KatherineParr8 · 13/10/2019 09:11

Go! It will give you a boost and might lead to other work too.

ChickenyChick · 13/10/2019 09:12

I have lived in 6 different countries

Don't regret it

My home town is still where it was, am going there this weekend

imnotarunnerivetried · 13/10/2019 10:49

Definitely go! Why wouldn't you, it's only three weeks - enjoy!

walkintheparc · 13/10/2019 16:27

@MrsTriOskvi *vicariously

MrsTriOskvi · 13/10/2019 16:39
