Gay erotic fiction

I'm a self confessed lover of smexy books. Recently I've noticed a sub gender of gay male erotica marketed at women. It then got me thinking about one poster who said she got turned on during the gay scene between two characters in the Elton John movie. I confess I thought it was a bit strange.

I know people have their kinks or whatever but I'm just amazed when straight women get turned on by gay sex. If anything I'd imagine you'd be turned on by two lesbians. I don't think I've ever heard a gay man say they find sex between two women a turn on or even heterosexual sex a turn on.

Are women more likely to be sexually fluid?

Bezalelle · 12/10/2019 21:24

Smexy! What does that even mean?

PerkyPomPoms · 12/10/2019 21:26

Why would a straight women be turned on by female bodies? I’d think it was male bodies that made her horny. Blush

wigglybeezer · 12/10/2019 21:27

The difference is gay men don't fancy women so aren't turned on by watching then " at it". The comparison should be with straight men watching lesbian porn which is...er... extremely popular.

naericht · 12/10/2019 21:31

I’ve always thought of myself as a lesbian, have a gay male best friend ... I have found the thought of him and his partner ... interesting . I’m not sure what that says about our friendship or me to be honest . Probably that I’m attracted to said friend on some level . I’ve always said if I’d sleep with a man - as unlikely as I feel it is - I’d sleep with him first .

I think it’s probably something along the lines of , male gay erotica isn’t threatening . It’s easier to read and not feel uncomfortable because it doesn’t involve a woman !

Lagatha · 12/10/2019 21:34

Actually studies show that most people are "turned on" by most types of erotica/porn etc. Their conscious brain may not be thinking those thoughts but physiological evidence suggests they are.

Lagatha · 12/10/2019 21:35

*suggests they are turned on. They just don't know they are.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/10/2019 21:38

I love gay male erotic fiction.
I'm totally heterosexual so I like men obvs, and two together, yep!

drankthekoolaid · 12/10/2019 21:39

I love m/m fiction! Much better than straight A's there's so many more obstacles to overcome. There may or may not be smut I don't mind.

Recommend Sloane Kennedy, Avril Ashton, Amy Lane, Tara Laine, TJ Klune...

Or you can go the fan fiction route if you weed out all the badly written stuff - Arthur/Merlin, Harry/Draco...

"Smexy" is what 14-year old anime fangirls used to write instead of "sexy" circa 2005.

Grambler · 12/10/2019 21:48

AO3 Sherlock Sex Olympics. Just saying Grin

Hahhaha · 12/10/2019 21:49

Some gay porn is incredibly hot. No gagging, no treating the woman or bottom in this case like a battering ram and two cocks rather than one. Their bdsm is far more erotic.

I don't get turned on by mf porn. It's just not sexy.

naericht · 12/10/2019 21:56

Friend and I used to go daft over Draco/Harry ... and Harry/Snape which seems wildly inappropriate looking back !

Mrsfrumble · 12/10/2019 21:57

I remember reading about how many young women idealise the power balance in gay (male) sex. Like any inbalance or disempowerment they themselves felt would be erased by fantasising about sex between two people of the same gender*, but men and not women because they themselves were heterosexual and attracted to men.

Certainly the stats in AO3 (where the vast majority of authors are female) confirm this.

  • Obviously I mean “sex” as in male or female here, not gender, but having already used used “sex” as in the act, the sentence looked a bit odd.
TheChampagneGalop · 12/10/2019 21:58

Finding the comment that gay porn is hot because no women are being tortured in it tragic. The porn industry is horrific.

Mrsfrumble · 12/10/2019 21:58

I’ve just read my post back and it still makes bugger all sense. I have been drinking...

LonginesPrime · 12/10/2019 22:01

I'd imagine there's far less misogyny and violence against women in gay male porn.

That's probably quite nice for straight women.

amusedbush · 12/10/2019 22:01

When I was a teenager (and into my early 20s) I wrote a LOT of gay porn fanfiction featuring Harry and Draco Grin

DH found it when we first got together and teased me mercilessly!

TemporaryPermanent · 12/10/2019 22:02

I love the idea of two men together, and sometimes read male/male fanfiction. I was 15 in 1984 when Another Country came out, which was entirely non pornographic but entirely about male/male romanticism and sexual yearning. God I loved it. Beautiful boys adoring each other. Still cross about Rupert Everett's plastic surgery [irrelevant]

I love men. Male bodies, cocks, legs, arms, necks, male smell, breath, voices, sounds. My God. The thought of two men desiring each other is immensely hot, just like the thought of two women together is pretty hot for most straight men. I don't embarrass the universe by thinking that my concept of men together has much to do with actual gay sex.

amusedbush · 12/10/2019 22:03

@naericht

Snap! Grin

If you want to talk about inappropriate, I wrote a very questionable story featuring Harry and Scorpius. Harry was a Hogwarts professor and Scorpius was 17 Blush

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/10/2019 22:29

@drankthekoolaid
I love Sloane Kennedy, Laine Hayes is great too

Will0wtree · 12/10/2019 22:43

Merlin/Arthur, Harry/Draco, Sherlock/John.....all very erotic. having read a lot of books I am used to identifying with the main (male) character.

So I think sometimes women can identify with one male character, but also find the other character attractive too.

So then they can both fancy the main character, and find what happens to them erotic, but also fancy the other character and find their side of thing erotic too...win win...

SweetPetrichor · 12/10/2019 23:00

Two men together...what could be better! I only read gay fiction now. Garrett Leigh, C.S. Pacat, Quinn Anderson, Heidi Cullinan, Zaya Feli, SE Jakes, Jordan L Hawk, C Kennedy, RJ Scott, Elyse Springer, Adrienne Wilder, Gregory Ashe, Lisa Henry, J.A. Rock, Kate McMurray, Jay Northcote, Tara Lain, Annabeth Albert, TJ Klune, Roan Parrish, Eli Easton, Rose Christo...and so many more. Once you dive in, you find the good authors rather than the more crappy easy reading erotica.
And if you slide down the side road of mpreg, then you don't even need the female characters anymore. Men and babies, it does't get cuter. Harder to find good mpreg authors though. Ann-Katrin Byrde are awesome (two authors co-writing under that pen name), A.M Arthur and Leta Blake write awesome mpreg though.

TheChampagneGalop · 13/10/2019 09:19

I understand that one hot man + another hot man = nice. But mpreg. What am I reading here, Mumsnet? How are men getting pregnant and giving birth through their asses hot? It's too early for this I already need a drink.

SimonJT · 13/10/2019 13:25

An ex is in some fanfic, it’s hilarious and we take opportunities to read it to him as he cringes!

drankthekoolaid · 13/10/2019 19:17

I think mpreg only works in Harry Potter or other sci fi where there's an explanation that makes sense like a potions accident.

I used to moderate a live journal fest of Harry/Scorpious! It's hot if Scorp is a legal age..!
