Sorry, can't advise on Flambards as mine are far too old now. If you go across to Flambards, continue on towards the Lizard, taking the right hand turn beyond Culdrose towards Cury & Poldhu. Take your buckets, spades and wellies with you and head to the beach at Poldhu. The beach cafe is open everyday and does Ann's pasties. Nothing like sitting outside there in the rain with a hot choc.

I'd normally suggest getting the train to St Ives as the trip along Carbis Bay is stunning, but it's not so much fun in the opposite direction unless you carry onto Penzance.

The Maritime Museum at Falmouth is good and the Falmouth Art Gallery was always good for small people as well.

It’s years since I’ve been to Flambards but it should be doable in the rain, you’d need to check it’s open though. You could always head over to Ships and Castles and make a day of it in Falmouth. Paradise Park is a must for a rainy day too. Cornwall in the wind and rain can be very bleak, if you’ve got young kids with you I’d try and do some normal home type stuff like going to the library. You could have a bit of a stomp around the woods at Trencrom or Tehidy, and Godrevy might be worth a look. You’ve also got places like Levant/Geevor which have some inside stuff, and some national trust places too. If it’s not bucketing down then pony trekking also an option

If you have a car, Helston has a small museum that’s free to enter and full of weird shit - lots of agricultural curiosities and carriages etc on the ground floor, but the upper floor is really eclectic. Bonkers in a good way. The pasty shop on the main shopping street sells great pasties.

Lanhydrock House near Bodmin (National Trust) is huge and great for stretching your legs indoors on a rainy day. Lots of taxidermy, which freaked DS1 out at around 4yo but was a source of great interest on a later visit.

The county museum in Truro is an absolute gem - some wonderful exhibits and (so it says) a globally significant collection of (rare) minerals and ores from Cornwall’s mines, which are surprisingly beautiful and strange. There is also a small art collection, a mummy room and other beautiful objects. I liked their netsuke display. It’s bite-sized, so not overwhelming for smalls. The decent cafe off the museum gift shop links through to a fantastic art supplies shop.

boatyardblues · 12/10/2019 20:12

I should mention that the art shop does workshops - might be worth looking into if the weather is really dire.

Flambards has a huge soft play which is perfect for young kids ( or at least it did last time we went)

Geevor
Eden Project
Truro Museum
National Maritime museum in Falmouth
Model train centre in Mevagissey which is hilarious and tiny but my kids adore it
Shipwreck Museum in Charlestown
Wheal Martyn china clay mining museum

Cornwall Gold www.cornwall-gold.com/our-world/family-fun/
Pirate’s Quest in Newquay
Carnglaze Caverns
Paradise Park (has lots of things under cover, plus a giant indoor soft play)
Bodmin & Wenford Railway

We had a nice day at Geevor Tin Mine last year. Mostly indoors with some trekking about outside between the different parts. Lovely cafe too.

Karwomannghia · 13/10/2019 07:57

At ives leisure centre swimming.
Country skittles which is an indoor games centre and cafe like bowling, air hockey etc and loads of board games.
There’s a mine you can go in which has lots of undercover activities as well as the mine, like painting a pot etc. Cornish gold??
The Tate sometimes has activities on for kids, also the galleries in Penzance / newlyn.

TrickorWheat · 13/10/2019 07:57

Most of Paradise Park is outside. Probably 90%.

They will charge you full price entry for using the soft play, so roughly £50 for a family of 4.

Its a truly wonderful place when it is dry.

If you want half a day of soft play for around £12 for 2 children, I would probably go to ROAR on the Portreath road or Gwel an Mor, if you visit Gwel n Mor after 4pm its around £7 all inclusive for soft play, clip & climb and a childrens meal. They have dropped the prices during term time.

Karwomannghia · 13/10/2019 07:59

Was thinking the same about paradise park it’s very expensive.

fuckwitseverywhere · 13/10/2019 08:07

The aquarium at Newquay is good. We went on a rainy day on holiday in Cornwall.
Also the maritime museum at Falmouth
The telegraph museum at porthcaul is also good

TrickorWheat · 13/10/2019 08:08

In one day you could do swimming at Carn Brea, then lunch at Baker Toms, which is 5 mins along the road, a look around Cornwall gold then up to Gwel an Mor for food, soft play & clip n climb.

All within really short driving distance of each other & that should wear them out!

There is also a Roller Rink (Rollerbooting) within minutes from Carn Brea swimming pool & Baker Toms but its not easy, I think its a wooden floor & its quick!

Karwomannghia · 13/10/2019 08:51

Yes the telegraph museum at porthcurno was surprisingly good!

Zone4flaneur · 13/10/2019 09:25

The castle in Falmouth is good on a wet day. Lots of inside stuff. And a good tea room! Was going to suggest the museum in Truro, am very fond of it- and then you can go somewhere nice for lunch. Mevagissey is a trek from where you are just for the railway but there is also a very small weird aquarium and a museum by the old boat building yard.

Having said that, if it's not sheeting down we usually just go out anyway--heligan is Woods so fine in the rain. I grew up there though so used to being thoroughly damp. It rains constantly.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 13/10/2019 09:47

Mullion has a small craft centre that has a glass workshop. The children can make glass bits and pieces under supervision from Zoe, the owner. There’s Trenance chocolate shop on the same site, where you can see the chocolate being made and buy it. A couple of other shops worth a look and a pleasant cafe. That could be combined with Mullion Cove or the Lizard.

If you have NT membership, Lanhydrock House near Bodmin, is great.

A boat trip maybe, along the Fal?

Zone4flaneur · 13/10/2019 16:40

Oh Roskillys is good too www.roskillys.co.uk/Visit_The_Farm
