Pulsatile tinnitus

Does anyone know much about this, like causes and treatment or underlying problems.
I have high bp at 145/90 at the moment and have been under a lot of stress last 2 and half years due to leaving an abusive marriage, divorcing him, having threats from him, ending up in him getting arrested. Now i have a lovely new man and things are good.
I am not sleeping properly, i work nights as a hca so my sleep is all.over, sometimes i go 36 hrs with no sleep.
The nurse i spoke to at work said due to my symptoms, thumping in my ear like heartbeat it could be pulsatile tinnitus but didnt give me any more info.
Its been going on for about 3 weeks now and does get me down.
Any ideas what i can do.

Pulsatile tinnitus just means you can hear your heartbeat in your ear. It can happen when you've got a cold or an ear infection, so the sounds conduct differently, but it can occur for other reasons too. The Tinnitus Association on Pulsatile Tinnitus is a helpful read.

I had this for a few weeks during a period of high stress earlier this year. I only noticed it at night and it interfered with sleeping. I went to the GP who referred me to ENT to rule out underlying issues, but it stopped of its own accord a short time after and so I never followed up the referral. I'd speak to your GP.

I get it during stressful times. I know from experience when the stress goes, it goes.......the total silence is amazing!

It's your high BP. If you can get that down it should hopefully go.

Thankyou for the replies, maybe should make appt with gp then, they have already said that my high bp and lack of sleep, also had bad anxiety immediately after i left dh, so had cbt which didnt work, is probably all down to stress.
Is gp likely tp refer to hospital then. Other than high bp, what else could it be and how can i stop it, some days it drives me mad.

It can be due to anaemia, blood pressure, a few other things I can't remember, or just one of those things. I've had it pretty much constantly for almost a year now, saw a ENT doc recently who pretty much just shrugged and said never mind, so I am just putting up with it.

Mehripoop · 27/10/2020 02:37

@pinkkoala and @DebbieFiderer did it get better ladies?

DebbieFiderer · 27/10/2020 04:55

Nope. It's there pretty much all the time, only really notice it when there's not much ambient noise though. I've learned to live with it, just a mild annoyance now.

I've always had it. Thought it was normal until a couple of years ago. I do have a congenital hearing loss tho.
