Abandoned houses

DH and I moved to this street in 2013. We soon noticed that no 42 was a bit odd. The grass and hedge were perfectly maintained. In the centre of the garden was an ornate raised stone planter with a small white rosebush.

But the house itself was a state. Crumbling render, old fashioned metal gutters hanging askew, flaking paint on the old wooden window frames. And the upstairs landing curtains, visible from the road, pulled 2/3 of the way across, like someone had pulled them shut hastily. They never altered their angle, not by an inch, for six and a half years. By the looks of it, they might well have been like that for twenty years.

Now the house is up for sale at auction. Obviously I have nosed looked at the specs online. There is only a floorplan and the blurb says that the interior is so dilapidated that prospective buyers are cautioned about viewing it as injury may result!

I am so fascinated by this house and its story. I love abandoned houses. Have you ever seen an interesting empty house?

Do you have a link? I've seen a few abandoned houses but the immaculate garden is strange.

IS THe garden maybe being maintained by another person on the street? My relatives spent a yr and a half mowing the grass and tending to next doors garden after the bloke died. They didn’t want it looking obviously abandoned and risk squatters or any trouble or it bringing down the look of the street!

I haven't been in any but also fascinated

I like the fascination though

The real story is likely to be dull, when I want it to be like Hill House.

I'm surprised the vendor hasn't gone straight to a developer if it's actually dangerous.

I love abandoned house and places. I YouTube them all of the time.
I always wonder what the history is. Why is it abandoned? Who lived there? I’m especially fascinated when all of their belongings are left.

Yoohoo exactly!

Northern don't want to link tbh as the house is on my street so I don't want to offer up my exact location! Could be right about neighbours doing the garden - the house is a semi and the NDN house is very presentable.

I prefer to think it has its own ghost-gardener who comes by at full moons.......

That is a novel I would pre-order!

There's an abandoned house a few roads away from me.

Apparently it's been abandoned for 25 years after the owner died.

It could be a really lovely house for a family. Looks like it still has lots of original Edwardian features.
