Realities of buying cashmere

I was looking at some knitwear at Benetton. If I buy cashmere, what will happen? Will I feel like I've really Invested In A Quality Piece? Or will I get annoyed with having to hand wash it, and it'll end up stretching and I'll wish I never bought it?

Before anyone says it, I am well aware this is a first world problem, and there are also far worse things going on in my life. Wink

It takes 4 goats to be sheared to make a cashmere jumper and some die of the cold. Sad That would probably put me off to be honest.

i always machine wash cashmere, never had a problem. buy on ebay though, so not "investment" prices.

Is that true about the goats dying, that is awful. I was going to buy something as it's so warm and soft but dont think I will now. I have also seen cashmere mix but think I will go with sheep wool or synthetic instead. Definitely not investment clothing.

It was on the peta website. Some stores might do ethical cashmere so maybe Benetton is one of them. I think they stopped selling angora products for cruelty reasons so their cashmere might be ok. I'd probably avoid just in case though. I also don't buy down pillows, duvets or coats for animal welfare reasons.

A quick google tells me @Fivechatchacha is right. I had no idea. Will be giving that a swerve then.

Ah well, never mind then.

It would be a gourmet meal for the moths in my house.
