What top tips do you have to make the most of a visit to Imperial War Museum in London? Kids age 10 and 7. I'm aware there are existing threads but I've found there is outdated info so looking for up to date stuff.

Hello all, I'm new on here.
Just putting feelers out for other mums etc with language delayed children over 4 years.
My little boy will be 5 very soon and has very basic speaking skills. Mainly one words but can say more if I push him. Hes clever, sensitive, shy, loving.
He has a few autistic traits but nothing that causes us real difficulties.
He started pre school at 3 and now in reception and his teacher /senco are hell bent on saying he cant do most things the others his age are doing but he can...hes just not doing it at school. I've even filmed him at home for them.

I don't want a label for him when he is obviously going forward and dont see what it would achieve at the moment.

I hope there are others out there who are in similar boat so can relate. It's so hard having a late speaking child. So worrying x

@butterfliesmum I've reported your question as it really needs to be it's own thread. You have added it onto someone else's question.

@Snappyteabread the IWM is my 7 year olds favourite museum. To be honest I just follow him around. Most the time is spent in the WW1 exhibition. Then he likes the vehicles etc. I have 2 older kids too. None are old enough yet to go into the Holocaust exhibition as it's quite graphic (because the kids can't go I haven't been either).

There are free lockers so you can leave bags and coats by the entrance. The museum is in lovely grounds so nice for a picnic on a good day. There is also a food stall outside you can get some chips to add to a picnic.

The cafe in the museum is really lovely (not cheap but if you can afford a treat then a nice one) but.... don't leave it late to eat as they run out of things.

You will have a lovely day. (If your kids like the vehicles then try Duxford next time, and I love the IWM Manchester as the building is amazing...my kids prefer London. )

It is a great one but in my opinion the children should have a rough understanding about the wars.

We went after DD did WWII in school (she also visited the museum with school beforehand but neither of us ever went) and we talked about WWI beforehand. It is very well made but it gives you more if you know about the background,

We went to the cafe as end of December was too cold for picnics, ideally go slightly before the usual lunch time crowd, it can be full very fast.

The Holocaust is recommend from 14 I think and for good reasons.

Don't forget cabinet war rooms and HMS Belfast are also in the IWM group so membership can be really good - plus you get to jump the queues.
