What top tips do you have to make the most of a visit to Science Museum in London? Kids age 10 and 7. I'm aware there are existing threads but I've found there is outdated info so looking for up to date stuff.

Don’t try and see everything! Think of these large museums like a seven series boxset. There are some great episodes, but neither you nor your children have the stamina to do it all in one go. Pick one or two highlights and aim for those – anything else is a bonus!
The Natural History Museum (NHM) has the longest queues. On more than one occasion I have walked past the NHM line slithering along Exhibition Road, only to walk straight into the Science Museum.
It opens later during school holidays – an extra half an hour in October half term holidays (til 7pm).
For cheap eats, I’ve just started using a cafe run by Imperial College, just a stone’s throw from the Science Museum. They offer a hot fresh main meal for £5, and freshly made sandwiches for a little less. It’s inside their Dyson building, on the south side of Imperial College Road. To find it, turn left out of Science Museum exit, and left at the corner, it’s just on the left hand side. You don’t need to be a student to use it. It’s definitely open weekdays.

I went in August and i was seriously disappointed with the place. I went in the80’s and it was bloody brilliant, and looked forward so much to taking my own, but once there I regretted it. Not enough to engage them. The 1st part is great if you love steam engines. The space section was poor and lacking. Upstairs was too computerised. I wanted something different to sitting in front of IPads and it was exactly that.

I suggest the NHM instead.

We went a couple of weeks ago. We had been disappointed a few years ago. But we had such a fantastic packed day.

We booked Wonderlab for 2pm. Of course the kids really loved this and the shoes inside were amazing.

In the morning we picked a few different areas and came up with some little challenges to do with them (eg scavenger hunt or find an invention starting with the letters of your name). We all really loved the Who am I? Exhibition despite it being screen orientated.

Definitely not able to do the whole thing in a day and we will go back. We also booked for the Ciphers to Cyber Security exhibit which was good but our kids are a bit older than yours and it may not be enough to hold their interest.

for many kids, the best bit can be the walk from the station through the subway to the musem itself Grin
