A family member is going to spend a week in the Cotswolds (Bourton on the water area ) do any MNetters have recommendations of fairly inexpensive coffee shops with nice cakes and or garden centre cafe type places which are a must do ?

Lucy's Tea room in Stow on the Wold is lovely. Not far from Bourton on the Water either!

The Old Shed in Charlbury
The garden centre at Great Rollright (Wyatts, I think)
The Tea Set in Chipping Norton

Ooh yes, I really like Lucy’s in Stow!

Chickenpie9 · 10/10/2019 21:09

also is parking at this time of year easier than summer months ?

@Chickenpie9 we didn't have any issues with parking when we visited

Rivergreen · 10/10/2019 23:05

You won't have any problems parking in Bourton, the car park is huge.

If you end up anywhere near Burford, Huffkins has excellent food.

The Slaughters are worth a visit if you want somewhere less obvious to go. As is Batsford Arboretum: quite expensive but gorgeous this time of year

Thanks all for good suggestions have had a look at the places you have mentioned and sent them to my family member . Wish it was me who was going !

There are lots of places to be honest. If you can combine a tea or coffee house with something else even better. A few years ago I visited Chipping Camden. There are a few nice tearooms and pubs. Afterwards you can walk out of the village and up to Drover's Hill and watch the sun go down. Stow-on-the-Wold is more central and has more character. There are galleries and plenty of tea rooms, including Bourton-on-the-Water. Don't forget National Trust places such as Sudeley Castle and the pottery kiln next door at Winchcombe is unique. You also have Broadway if you want to combine coffee and antiques. Nestled between Broadway and Chipping Camden is The Dormy House Hotel, probably my favourite then a walk up Broadway Tower.

Stow on the Wold is much nicer than Bourton.

Daylesford Organic in Kingham.

The Feathered Nest in Nether Westcote is lovely.

Cheltenham has lots of nice places.

SorbetK6 · 11/10/2019 20:15

There is a Huffkins in Stow as well.
I second Sudeley castle, gardens are lovely but also lots to see inside. The cafe is nice there too.
Also, there's a lovely bakery in Bourton by the Motor museum which does great breakfasts and afternoon tea.

SorbetK6 · 11/10/2019 20:17

Burford garden centre is also great.

Lonelykettleshed · 11/10/2019 20:19

For inexpensive coffee shops I wouldn't recommend Daylesford or the Burford Garden Company. Both are lovely but pricey. I would second the recommendation of The Old Shed though.

Broadway looks lovely what is Cirencester like as they’re hoping to go there for a day ? I’ve been to Stow on the Wold myself and told them all about how good it was went to a bookshop down a lane and the owner was such a lovely friendly man .

Borsai bookshop, near the art shop?

freetony · 11/10/2019 23:41

Huffkins is okay, they have one in John Lewis too

MyNameIsMrsGrumpy · 12/10/2019 08:25

Cirencester has the church loads of coffee shops, charity shops and hairdressers. A nice antique shop next to Joules and a museum (but it’s not cheap) it’s not overly exciting and can be quite expensive.

Stow on the Wold - is pretty.

Bourton on the water is pretty and normally filled with tourist most of the time - the river is very pretty, Brum is good to visit.

Chipping Campden is a lovely village it’s beautiful, a couple of nice tea/coffee shops.

MyNameIsMrsGrumpy · 12/10/2019 08:26

Broadway tower is lovely, and a nice walk.

Chickenpie9 · 12/10/2019 18:17

Wasn’t Borsai but a second hand one . I did loved Borsai though too

Cotswolds are shit. Full of tourists and tractors.

Lonelykettleshed · 12/10/2019 21:52

Each to their own Freshwater, some of us call it home.
