PDF Job Application

So the advert says no CVs, applications must be on their form via the website.

The form is a PDF. I don't want to fail before I've even started and I'm obviously a bit thick, but how do I type into a PDF?

I would contact them and ask for clarity.

It's possible that you are supposed to print off, write on it and scan it in but that would be a really old fashioned way of doing things so it's best to just ask.

Good luck.

LIZS · 10/10/2019 20:04

It might be editable, although you may need a version of Adobe to do so. Otherwise print, complete and scan in to post or email.

Bumply · 10/10/2019 20:09

I would print out, fill in, take photos and send those if you don't have access to scanner.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 10/10/2019 20:10

They might mean no CVs, but you can print, fill in and post their application form. ie they don't want CVs sent in

LoyaltyBonus · 10/10/2019 20:15

I was hoping to avoid doing anything in my handwriting! It asks for a two page personal statement, in size 12 font, so they're obviously expecting it to be typed.

I'll have a look at that link thank you WrongKindofFace

It’s probably a test. They won’t bother reading the applications, but if you can be bothered to dick about with a pdf you can have the job. Good luck!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 10/10/2019 20:20

Are you sure it's not the type of pdf set up with editable form fields. If you click into a relevant gap it should highlight if its typeable.

Until last week thank you IT I had full Adobe and would happily have converted it to a word doc for you. maybe another MNers has Adobe Pro and can help out?

quincejamplease · 10/10/2019 20:24

What kind of device are you trying to do this on?

I've had issues with Apple device users not being able to type into PDF forms that are set up as editable (and worked for everyone else!).

I sincerely doubt they'd want people to print, hand write and scan. I imagine they'd bin applications from anyone who did.

LoyaltyBonus · 10/10/2019 20:25

I'm on a laptop

Really easy if you can’t edit the pdf they have given you or have adobe pro- Go onto google search free pdf to word converter’.. Upload the form and then convert to a word document. Open document in word fill in and then when finished just save and again go back to google and this time do the reverse. Search word to pdf converter and upload your document to convert back to pdf. (Newer versions of word you can just save directly as a pdf)

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 10/10/2019 20:29

Do not hand write it! They will not want that at all and it will look so unprofessional

user1492525633 · 10/10/2019 20:30

All free don’t pay for it!

listsandbudgets · 10/10/2019 20:49

I can't edit pdf documents on chrome but some of them work for me on edge so maybe worth trying a different browser? Then print what you've done to pdf

managedmis · 10/10/2019 20:51

Do you have Word?

Is the pdf fillable I. E can you click on the blue boxes and fill them in? Are there blue boxes?

P. S. Don't print it and hand write it Grin

managedmis · 10/10/2019 20:52

To clarify :

! It asks for a two page personal statement, in size 12 font, so they're obviously expecting it to be typed.

^^

This is in addition to the application form?

lljkk · 10/10/2019 20:55

Some of them are self-editable... some you can feed to websites.
Google docs can do many of them.

There's another terrific website for editing pdfs, but I can't remember name, sorry.

2 of my employers send PDFs. They expect us to print it out, write in by hand, scan and send it back. Drives me insane. They could even send us the powerpoint originals or Word Doc originals, but no... we get pointless pdfs.

MSWord can convert many pdfs into WordDocs, too.

geogteach · 10/10/2019 20:56

Have you got chrome? There is ap called Kami that lets you type
On pdfs

OhamIreally · 10/10/2019 20:57

Do exactly what user149 said.

Andylion · 10/10/2019 20:59

I did my CV in Word, then saved it as a PDF. In my case, there was a clear way to send it to my employer on their website.

LoyaltyBonus · 10/10/2019 21:03

No @managedmis , there are two pages within the form for the statement

OP posts:
Shinyletsbebadguys · 10/10/2019 21:08

Download it

Google PDF to doc converter

Follow instructions

Should convert to word and you can fill it out and send it back

I have often had to do this and never had a problem with it being sent that way
Good luck op fingers crossed for the job for you

tattiehat · 10/10/2019 22:41

Some PDF docs you can add text in the blank sections, then save and send. Maybe check if you can do this?

LoyaltyBonus · 11/10/2019 16:16

I'm still really struggling. You can't click into anywhere on the form.

I've tried a few different free converters and whilst they enable the completion of some of the boxes, it doesn't work for all of them.

I feel like I'm missing something. This is a fairly high level job but all their job applications are the same, they can't be expecting everyone to go through this before putting an application in? I haven't even started the hard bit yet!

If you find the box that says comment, normally at the top or down the right hand side. It will then give you the option to type (it's a capital T icon then you just click where you want to type and type away)
