I'm in labour - should my partner go to work

Hello,

I think I'm in early labour, having painful cramps 20minutes apart.

We're debating if DH should go to work or not. With my first I was in early labour for over 24 hours before I even went to hospital.

We want to have as much of the paternity with the baby as possible so if he goes in for a couple of hours it won't count as a full day taken.

He works 10minutes away from home by car. The birth centre is also 10minutes from his work and me.

I will be able to spend the morning with my mum so won't be alone and will have help with my 2 year old.

What would you do

Good luck Flowers

Tell him to go to work.

Ds1 33 hours.
Ds2 27 hours

Good luck!

Userzzzzz · 10/10/2019 11:30

Good luck - 10 mins is a nice distance. My first was 3 days and my second super speedy and I just didn’t realise how fat along I was at all so make sure you let him know quickly if things escalate.

How are you doing op?

meepmoop · 10/10/2019 12:19

I'm doing okay thank you, glad DH went to work as my contractions have slowed down to one every 30minutes only lasting 30seconds at the most. Not much happening really

I love how everyone varied in length with first and second baby. For me, first took 14 hours. Second took just 21 minutes, i didn't even make it to the labour ward Grin

Fuckenstein · 10/10/2019 14:22

My first labour was 14 hours and my second 1 hour 7 mins but I knew from the first pain that it was different so on that basis I would sat send him in.

meepmoop · 10/10/2019 16:32

Well he's back from work so definitely glad I sent him in.

I've been checked and I'm getting pretty regular contractions and 5cm dilated. Been sent home to get some food and get sorted

Definitely the right decision but sounds like he will be on paternity leave tomorrow. Good luck x

Levatrice · 10/10/2019 16:48

5cm and sent home? Are you having a homebirth

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 10/10/2019 16:53

Being sent home at 5cm is a bit mad!

meepmoop · 10/10/2019 17:07

No not having a home birth, she didn't think I was in active labour yet.

Second baby, fairly regular contractions, 5cm and you were sent home? Interesting choice.

starflake · 11/10/2019 11:45

How are things progressing @meepmoop? Hopefully you have your baby by now

meepmoop · 11/10/2019 14:12

She finally made an appearance at 2am this morning, it was a marathon with a sprint finish.

I hope you and your daughter are doing well.

Wallabyone · 11/10/2019 21:23

Congratulations! I still can't believe they sent you home 5cm dilated though!

mathanxiety · 12/10/2019 03:25

Lovely news Flowers

Hope you're both well and resting and that you're getting lots of help.
Smile

meepmoop · 12/10/2019 09:39

Thanks everyone.

They nearly sent me home again when I went in at 7 as my contractions weren't staying regular.

Luckily there was a shift change and the new midwife didn't send me home as she thought it might be how I labour. My contractions weren't regular even up to pushing so glad they didn't send me away
