Where to buy cot bumper?

strawbebbies · 09/10/2019 20:13

We're going to change 18mo dd's cot to the toddler bed setting and I was hoping to get a bumper to put on it to make it more cosy but nowhere seems to sell proper padded bumpers anymore, just the mesh kind.

Has anyone seen anywhere that still sells them?

They are a cot death risk. I'm glad to hear they are hard to buy now, at long last. Please look up the risks on the Lullaby trust website.

MyDcAreMarvel · 09/10/2019 20:15

Try 1985!

dementedpixie · 09/10/2019 20:18

Absolutely no need for a cot bumper. They arent recommended anyway

Agree with PP. They are dangerous and shouldnt be sold

MustardScreams · 09/10/2019 20:19

They sell the mesh line d because cot bumpers kill babies and toddlers. Better to be alive than cosy I think.

JemimaCuddleMuck · 09/10/2019 20:19

Please don't buy a cot bumper. No child needs one.

Coconut0il · 09/10/2019 20:19

Do not get a cot bumper, they are so dangerous Sad

lostonadustyrock · 09/10/2019 20:19

Nowhere, hopefully. They’re dangerous and a suffocation risk. Unnecessary. The cot is for sleeping, not looking cuddly.

Figgygal · 09/10/2019 20:20

Was coming on to say the same as the others

Hope it's clear enough

Noooooo. I can't believe they are still sold anywhere.

HelloSweetlings · 09/10/2019 20:23

To be fair, I assumed all cots needed bumpers before I had DD as that was what is seen in the media etc. Thankfully I researched and learned they are potentially dangerous, amazed they are still sold

Mesmeri · 09/10/2019 20:23

OP says that the child is 18 months old... so well outside the risky age for cot death (not meaning to sound in any way dismissive about cot death, but 0-6 months is the big danger zone, as I understood it? By 18 months most children are no longer at risk from things like cot bumpers if correctly secured, surely?)

Ikea does them, it's like a big fabric box the mattress goes inside (so impossible for the child to get tangled up in) and then velcro straps on the outside keep the sides attached to the cot bars.

SoyDora · 09/10/2019 20:23

I’m confused, if it’s in the bed setting what would you attach them to? They normally go on the bars don’t they? Surely you take the bars off when you turn it into a bed?

luckygreeneyes · 09/10/2019 20:23

Seems everyone else beat me to it. There’s a reason you can’t find them

causticthings · 09/10/2019 20:24

Please, please, PLEASE don't buy a cot bumper!
They are beyond dangerous and a huge risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome / suffocation for young children.

The Lullaby Trust website has information around safer sleeping; it's much better to be safe.

NerrSnerr · 09/10/2019 20:24

The ties on the bumper are dangerous. They are dangerous as the bumper can pull away leaving the risk of strangulation. Take a look at Justice for Preston on Facebook.

MustardScreams · 09/10/2019 20:24

@Mesmeri even if correctly secured toddlers can get caught up in cot bumpers and risk strangulation.

There is just NO REASON ever to buy them.

luckygreeneyes · 09/10/2019 20:25

Just re read your OP, you’re looking for bed guards not a bumper. Try a pool noodle under the fitted sheet at the exposed edge.

Although I wouldn’t voluntarily remove cot sides under they are climbing out

dementedpixie · 09/10/2019 20:26

If it's a cot bed with no sides where in earth would you put the bumper? Do you mean a bed guard?

NerrSnerr · 09/10/2019 20:27

It's not just cot death/ suffocation that's the risk. One child, I believe it was Preston on the FB page I mentioned died from the ties. His parents had attached it correctly but the tie came away from the bumper.

They are dangerous for any age. They are a risk of strangulation.

TalentedMsRipley · 09/10/2019 20:28

Ive got individual ones that go around each bar...

CottonSock · 09/10/2019 20:29

Inflatable bumpers in a special fitted sheet are very good. You can also take them away with you. Like a soft and portable bed guard. My dd1 was also convinced to stay in bed (not dd2).

Runkle · 09/10/2019 20:29

How do people not know about the danger of these in 2019?!

CottonSock · 09/10/2019 20:30

I had hippy chick ones. Pricey, but often on eBay.
