I shouted at my neighbour

and I probably shouldn't have.

It was a silly stupid situation where I was crossing the road with my children and didn't see him coming so he had to stop. He kept repeating 'madam don't cross the road there', but he was going too fast, I obviously wouldn't have crossed if I had seen him. He just kept repeating it and then started driving off so I shouted after him not to tell me how to parent.

You know when you say something just out of pure frustration even though it makes no sense?! He then pulled up on a drive on my road. Bloody brilliant. Making friends with the neighbours hey?!

It sounds like you weren’t properly paying attention and when called out on it got defensive and shouted at him as you realised what could have happened.

lizzlebizzle33 · 09/10/2019 17:50

If you didn't see him and he had to stop why are you the one shouting at him? Im confused.

Soola · 09/10/2019 17:52

Find a safer place to cross where you have more visibility to observe traffic.

He couldn’t have been going that fast if he was able to stop in time.

WorraLiberty · 09/10/2019 17:54

Why didn't you see him?

Soola · 09/10/2019 17:54
cantfindname · 09/10/2019 18:01

Just swallow your pride and go and apologise for shouting at him. Explain it was a panicky reaction and don't harp on about him going 'too fast'

A quick apology has got to be easier than months of trying to avoid him.

LillyBugg · 09/10/2019 18:04

I know you're all right. He lives a fair way down the road, I've actually never seen him before. Or at least never noticed him. Not sure I'm brave enough to 'go' and say sorry but I'll bear it in mind if I see him again.

SoupDragon · 09/10/2019 18:05

So, you crossed somewhere that sounds like it wasn't safe to cross without looking properly and then shouted at the person who didn't run you over?

LillyBugg · 09/10/2019 18:05

Oh and I didn't see him because he came around the bend towards us. If he was slower I would have seen him appear and not crossed. But he was going quicker than he should so suddenly appeared from around the bend.

heartsonacake · 09/10/2019 18:07

You shouldn’t be crossing a road near a bend. That is not a safe place to cross and an accident waiting to happen, as you petty much found out.

Soola · 09/10/2019 18:10

Is there anyone else that can bring your children home safely whilst your swatting up on the Green Cross Code?

Soola · 09/10/2019 18:12
Booghost · 09/10/2019 18:12

Was it a busy road? If yes then you probably shouldn’t have crossed where you did with your kids. If it was a quiet residential street then it’s a bit odd of the guy to have a go

HeadintheiClouds · 09/10/2019 18:13

You walked out in front of him and you decided that this must have somehow been his fault so you shouted at him... All in front of your children.
You’re the nightmare neighbour nobody wants to live beside.

Bluntness100 · 09/10/2019 18:13

I suspect you got defensive as he was right.

As a driver it's horrible sometimes when you see what some parents do, they cross on a bend, push the prams out on the road, and their children could so easily get terribly hurt.

LillyBugg · 09/10/2019 18:14

Did anyone read my OP where I said I shouldn't have shouted at him?? Anyone???

I only posted because it's on my mind and I know I shouldn't have done it.

Honestly I think most of you have read something entirely different to what I wrote.

Ha ha I love how I'm the nightmare neighbour from this snippet of my life that I've provided.

I didn't see him because he came around the bend towards us just admit you were in the wrong, life will be a lot easier if you take responsibility.

You shouldn't have crossed there with children then.

Millions of cars drive too fast around bends every single day.

LillyBugg · 09/10/2019 18:18

Yes pinky my life is very hard. Thank you for the life lesson.

I once angrily gesticulated - as in sort of threw my hands up in an exaggerated manner - at another motorist before realising it was a neighbour. I feel your pain.

I went round and apologised. She was fine. We laughed at how embarrassed I was.

heartsonacake · 09/10/2019 18:20

You need to take responsibility for the fact that you were in the wrong here, not him.

Yes, you’ve admitted you shouldn’t have shouted him at but you haven’t admitted you put yourself and your children in a dangerous situation by crossing where you shouldn’t have.
