Snotty toddler - raw face :(

One of my twins (3) has had the worst snotty nose for almost two weeks. He wakes up looking like he’s had a run in with Slimer.

I wipe it, and then it’s back. It’s thick, illuminous and disgusting. He is autistic and doesn’t understand any words - so no chance of getting him to blow his nose whatsoever. He’s started wiping it on his sleeve as it’s a sensory nightmare.

His poor face is so sore. Big red patches on his cheeks and what looks like a graze on the end of his nose. He’s prone to eczema although rarely has it these days thanks to eliminating dairy.

Anything I can do, anything I can apply to his skin? Hoping this will end soon!

Vaseline. Lots, lots of times! Hang on in there Flowers

Sudocrem? I often use this on my 3 year old DS when he has a sore nose from a cold.

Vaseline? As a barrier to the snot....not sure if that would work with sensory considerations though....

Are you using wipes or just a flannel with water to wipe? I know i used a wipe once on my boogers and it stung like hell, so never used since.

I would use a wet flannel to wipe anything from overnight, then dry clean flannels or towel to wipe each time in the day.

Any kind of sensitive balm that you can add to create a barrier might help if you add each evening before bed. Then nothing in the day to let it breathe.

Milky products can encourage more snot, so if possible give less dairy the next few days.

They have no dairy at all so that’s covered!

I’ve tried putting epaderm on his face which is similar consistency to Vaseline but it gets wiped off so fast.

Trying to use the balmy tissues but having to use wet wipes at times as it’s just not shifting otherwise.

We had 6 straight months of constant bugs when they started nursery - I have not missed them over the summer. I guess this is it now until next summer (boo).

I would only use Vaseline. Lots of it.

8by8 · 09/10/2019 16:17

Sudocrem to relieve the rash/irritation, Vaseline to stop the snot sticking so much.

MamaRaisingBoys · 09/10/2019 16:22

My ds had very similar last year, ended up on antibiotics and an antibiotic cream as the raw skin got infected by the snot bless him. I would probably use sudocream to prevent it getting that bad again

Try Weleda Calendula weather balm from Boots
Worked brilliantly on my DC and my sister used the range on her DS eczema with great results. Not as gloopy as Vaseline, goes on in a thin layer and doesn't sting at all. The same company used to make a child specific one ( ? Dr Green's toddler balm or something like that) Brilliant if you can get some, do. Lasts for ages.

Thanks - I’ll order some stuff. Poor monkey.
