Harry Potter Studios? For an 8yo?

I’m thinking “experiences” for Christmas this year, rather than stuff. We have too much stuff. And also I really rather want to go myself Grin

DD is almost 8 and loves all things Potter, although to date we’ve only read and watched the first three. Is she too young? Will it be too scary or have too many spoilers?

I’d welcome opinions from people that have been.

Personally I wouldn't go until she has seen all of the films.

It isn't scary, but I think you need to have seen all the films and probably be a few years older to really appreciate it. A lot of it is quite technical stuff about how the special effects were produced, make up, costumes etc. Depends on the individual child of course, but we took our boys when they were 11 and 13 and I don't think they would have got as much out of it if they had been any younger. I think younger children are sometimes a bit disappointed as they are expecting more of a theme park experience than it actually is, if that makes sense? We really enjoyed it and will probably go again, but I do see it as more of a secondary school child/adult day out really.

I took my daughter last year when she was 4 .... she loved it and loves Harry Potter films now (only the first 3)
It's not scary at all - there's always lots of kids there

It's great and fine for an 8-year-old. It's not a spoiler sort of place, such a good day out. Great cafe and shop.

frasersmummy · 08/10/2019 18:06

It's the actual sets they used when filming so if you've seen the films you can imagine the scenes that took place in each set.

It's a fantastic experience but it's not interactive as such

Swatsup · 08/10/2019 18:08

My ds hasn’t watched all the films as they got too scary lol. He loved the Harry Potter studios though age 7. There was one bit with the spiders that he found very scary and another bit in the bank area that even I jumped at! It’s a brilliant day out!

onetimeonlyy · 08/10/2019 18:28

Wait till they have read them all and watched films... It's a great day out! I love it

PrincessScarlett · 08/10/2019 18:36

My DS is Harry Potter mad and was 6, nearly 7, when we took him and my 8 year old DD. They loved it and didn't find it scary at all. There are lots of scenes set up from the films and he asked about a couple that he didn't recognise, having only seen the first 4 films.

It was a truly magical day and he still talks about it 2 years later and how we have to go back.

I don't think you necessarily have to have seen all the films. It's helpful to have seen the first 2-3 but that's all.

We took my - at the time - 5y (almost 6y) nephew who is a big HP fan. He hadn't seen all the films and hadn't heard all of the books. However he had seen and heard enough, plus visited the Wizarding World in Orlando, to 'get' it all. He had a great day with us. Lots to see and read, some things to do, food to try, etc.

It is unlikely to be his only visit so it didn't matter that he hadn't seen all of the films just yet.

The shop is fantastic but can be pricey.

LtJudyHopps · 08/10/2019 18:48

Buy the tickets for after Christmas and hopefully you’ll have got through the films and books by then. They’re always on in the lead up to Christmas! It’s good, but better if you’ve actually seen the films.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/10/2019 19:12

Perfectly fine for an 8 year old HP fan! Go for it.

TeenPlusTwenties · 08/10/2019 19:18

We went when DD2 had only read & watched the first 2, she was about 10. DD1 was 15 and I was keen too.

It was fine for DD2, but I had to whisk her pass some scene set ups as they were 'spoilers' (and a bit gruesome), and some of the costumes and other bits meant nothing to her.

If you don't have a pressing need to go, I'd personally wait a year or 2 for her to finish the books and films.
