Can you remove a headstone from someones grave and have nothing there? This would be one that I paid for and erected,

Tried googling and cant find anything

Who removed it? Many graveyards now remove stones to allow for ease of grass cutting. Has the stone been placed elsewhere.

MrsJoshNavidi · 08/10/2019 17:59

Do YOU want to remove a headstone, or has someone else removed a headstone you paid for?

Tattoosandmemories · 08/10/2019 18:05

I would go direct to whomever is responsible for the cemetery.

I see no reason why not though. They will hold the official records of who is in the plot so no information will be lost by removing the headstone...

Clangus00 · 08/10/2019 18:11

If you hold the title deeds to the grave then yes, you can ask the council or a stonemason to remove it.

Nyctophyllia · 08/10/2019 18:16

Yes I hold the deeds, and yes it's me who wants to remove, I probably wont do it but just wondered if it was possible

OP posts:
Clangus00 · 08/10/2019 18:17

It is entirely possible.
Good luck with your decision x.

MrsJoshNavidi · 08/10/2019 18:20

Yes it's possible.

Gamorasgran · 08/10/2019 18:41

My brothers has been removed as my dad is now sharing his plot (lolz - all they need is a bottle of whiskey) and stone needs to come out whilst the ground settles. V common according to the undertaker so sure you can in other circs.

Nyctophyllia · 08/10/2019 18:55

But can you then just leave it unmarked or do you have to have something there?

WorraLiberty · 08/10/2019 18:58

Ring your local cemetery tomorrow, they'll answer your question.

I'm pretty sure it's ok to have an unmarked grave though.

LIZS · 08/10/2019 19:22

Yes it can be unmarked.

Nofunkingworriesmate · 08/10/2019 19:41

They did it for jimmy savile no problem, assuming no other person will object go ahead

Nofunkingworriesmate · 08/10/2019 19:42

Lots of folk can’t afford head stones do unmarked graves v common. My folks have wonky wooden cross only

Nyctophyllia · 08/10/2019 20:57

It's not common here, would be the only one in the cemetery without one

OP posts:
TheresAFuckOverThere · 08/10/2019 21:03

If you need to do this, you do it

doesn't matter if its not common

Majorcollywobble · 08/10/2019 22:03

You can get a stonemason to remove it if you had it erected in the first place . There will always be a record of the grave held by whichever organization administrates the cemetery.

Majorcollywobble · 08/10/2019 22:03

Should have said there will always be a record kept of the grave space.

Nyctophyllia · 08/10/2019 22:23

Thank you for the replies, I probably wont do it, it just pops into my mind every now and again
