Tandem feeding with coldsore

So DS has started with what looks to be the start of a cold sore (god knows where hes picked it up I dont get them) hes 2 and still breastfeeding. I'm being induced on the 25th so I'm hoping itll be gone by then but in case baby is early. How should I feed? Wash boob and hands then feed or just stop feeding? Any advice please?

I'd get what ever ds has on his lip checked out by the gp so you know what you're dealing with. Hope all goes well, tandem feeding can be so lovely.

I would feed them both from different boobs so they don’t mix.

Can you do that? Just with a newborn they tell you to do both boobs?

I would contact la Leche league and ask there advice. Would be tempted to keep it as one boob each until it's cleared up.

I could pump the other side to bring up supply if needed I suppose?

You can definitely feed two babies off one boob each - if you have twins it’s a fairly common way to do it. Do you have a local LLL group you could ask?

BeanBag7 · 08/10/2019 17:15

You can feed from one side each. It's quite common in tandem nursing, twin births or mums who have had breast surgery/mastectomy.

Might be worth a call to the doctors anyway. Could be hard to stop the 2 year old touching a new baby when they have a coldsore and they are so easily spread.
If you explain they may prescribe a cream or something to help clear it before the new arrival.
