My Mum has written a couple of sweet stories and has recorded them She was talking of putting them on a CD to go with the book but I said I,m sure things have moved on since my kids were little.

I'd be grateful of your opinions and insights.

Hi, we normally just read them stories, but my mum's partner has recorded some stories in French for my lot (she is Parisian) and they will listen to an audio clip playing whilst they turn the pages of the actual book.

My 15yo listens to books on audio CD.
Every now and then we get all the loose CDs and sort them out back into the appropriate cases.
MP3 versions would possibly be better, but less visible.

You can still buy books with accompanying CDs. My youngest has some nursery rhyme books/CDs. I’ve not seen anything different!

Surely it depends if you still have a CD player? I know lots of people who don't! We have once, but it's external to the computer so it's a faff to set up. My DC don't sit down long enough during the day to listen to a CD anyway. We read to them in the evenings.

HI - yes that is what I cam checking really. My kids are older and we don't have a CD player anymore as they listen to stuff on their phones.

I am not suggesting people don't read to their kids but if there were other option too what do you use? EG: Youtube? phones etc.

I basically want to work out if it is worth her investing in CDs of not.

We were gifted some that play through Alexa. I’m guessing that’s the way it’s heading.

When I was a kid we had story tapes for long journeys, now there's Audible. Otherwise we don't really use CDs, but if it's on mp3 or whatever you can put it on a smart phone, tablet or music player and blue tooth it to a speaker or play through the TV.

Thanks for these suggestion and observations. I have suggested she put one on you tube as she has already recorded it and had a sound track and she can use it to give people a taster. I think CDs are just an expensive option and she will be left with loads.
