Time off for job interview

I work a term time only job so can’t take time off during term time. I need to find a new job as my current one is awful, it’s making me ill, mostly due to the awful way I am treated by my boss.

I have an interview this week for a new job. It’s 10am on Friday. Googling suggests that my boss isn’t obliged to give me time off for interviews. I haven’t asked yet because I’m so worried she will say she won’t authorise it. So should I just call in sick? I hate lying about being ill!

it’s really making me anxious! I’m concerned about any repercussions if I don’t get the job and I’ve lied, or been told I can’t have time off and gone anyway...

Any helpful advise? Thanks!! I’m so hoping this new job happens, I can’t do my current one much longer but the bills won’t pay themselves...

If you ask and she says no....what would you do? You can’t then call in sick so you miss the interview.....
You could see if interviewer can accomdate a time out of your working hours....my current job they interviewed me at 6pm in the evening due to me not being able to get away from work.
Or you call in sick........will the guilt of calling in sick play on your mind and affect your interview performance?

Yeah you either need to ask the interviewer to change the time, or you need to phone in sick (or say you have a hospital appointment but some employers ask for proof).

If they phone for a reference if could become clear to both employers that you have lied.

Call in sick

Call in sick or with some other emergency. Don't over think it. Seriously no one in their right mind would ask for time off for a job interview!

If your current job is making you so anxious, maybe sick leave is justified since you are trying to address the situation? I can’t promise your manager would see it that way though.

It would be major trouble for me if I called in sick for a job interview. We do expect time off though (school) so the two go together. Have you no idea if anyone in your job has had time off for an interview?
