HCPs - processing slightly odd event...

I don't know quite why this suddenly surfaced as it was a long time ago, nor is it any big deal, but I just wanted to know whether this is in fact normal treatment.

Mid teens (about 15, I think) went into hospital for very minor op which required a general anaesthetic. Afterwards, one set of routine obs was done by what I assume was a junior doctor (white coat etc. back in the days when nurses were almost all female and wore dresses). He was a young man - twenties I would guess (though teens are usually pretty rubbish at estimating ages). Anyway, for some reason he took my pulse in the femoral artery, right up near my groin (not wrist which I would have thought far more normal). Nothing happened - in fact, being immensely ticklish, I just took a fit of the giggles and started squirming, and I don't think he was able to take my pulse anyway. But was this odd? Or normal?

I don't even know why I'm suddenly thinking about it - long time ago, not particularly bothered at the time. Just one of those early hours of the morning thought processes of "hang on a mo, that's a bit strange" which I wanted to run past other people.

That is strange

I have had this and there is a genuine reason for it. But I don’t know what it is! 😂 someone will in a minute!

Perhaps he couldn't find the one in your wrist?
What was your operation? Was it something that affected kegs or wrists or groin or pelvis?
Did your wrist/arm/hand have wires/sensors attached?

Tonsilectomy. No wires or sensors. Didn't even try my wrist. (I probably had one of those little plastic ID bracelets on one wrist).

We've had this exact same thread before. It's a standard way to get a reliable pulse.

That's reassuring - thanks!
