25 years old & can’t swallow tablets, & have an unbearable toothache. HELP

So, I currently have the worst toothache I think I’ve possibly ever had (going to ring and book a dentist appointment for tomorrow) but for now I need something to take the pain away, I have taken nurofen lemon meltlets and they have done nothing. Is there anything else I can take that isn’t a tablet, maybe something I can dissolve in water or melts on the tongue? Need something strong as I can’t take this anymore.
I’m from the UK so would have to be something available here.

You get soluble paracetamol and codeine, also kids liquid paracetamol.

I normally take calpol 6+ as it usually works (I’m very petite and weigh around 6 and a half stone so pretty much a child lol) but that doesn’t seem to be working anymore. Shall I just go in to a pharmacy and see what they have that’s soluble. Want something I can take alongside Ibruprofen. Thanks guys x

My adult dd also can't swallow tablets despite the many attempts I have made to get her to do so. Last time she really needed painkillers, and having failed to swallow tablets, she just chewed them. She said they tasted disgusting , but rather that than the pain.

Though I have to add, I am not sure anything is strong enough for toothache. Concentrate your efforts on getting a dentist appointment for now, they might even fit you in today.

I would use clove oil but I’m not 100% sure what tooth is causing me the pain, whole left side of my face is in pain including my ear and neck, although I suppose I could just rub it everywhere and hope for the best lol

I’ve just about given up with dentists, had a super traumatic experience a couple of years ago which left me not wanting to go so I’ve been putting it off for a couple of weeks but the pain has got so bad now. Due to have a tooth out on the other side that was giving me pain but now that’s stopped and the other side has started. Can’t bloody win lol

You can take paracetamol with nurofen and they do soluble ones, or soluble cocodamol

As kids DM would crush aspirin between two teaspoons and add sugar .

Go to a pharmacy, an independent one ideally and explain. They will help. Toothache can be a bastard though and you may well not be able to eliminate it.

look up emergency dental treatment, some hospitals do it, or there may be a local dental practice open late.
I would try anywhere to get some relief, and diagnosis, it may be an infection, need antibiotics.
try ring 111.

Souluable co-codamol or paracetomol

Clove oil - smells and tastes vile but does help

Strong spirit - vodka or whiskey - hold it in your mouth against bad tooth for a while then spit it out (or if necessary swallow it)

Cold compress on your cheek

All of those thngs will help but ultimately, its a job for the dentist. Hope you feel better soon

I'm a dentist whimp too. Usually takes me a couple of weeks toothache before I give in :(

Talk to your GP. Mine prescribe me sedatives just to get me across the threshold at the dentist. Dental phobia is really common.

I have to take tablets with a mouthful of food otherwise I can't get them down. Obviously chew the food to the point you're ready to swallow, put the tablet to the back if your mouth and then swallow the whole lot. Have a drink on standby just in case.

Put tablet in mouth and take a drink through a straw, swallow, you won't even notice it. It's how I learnt to swallow tablets, I used to struggle too.

Sounds like an abcess though, that pain is the worst. Painkillers don't tend to help either. Dentist and antibiotics asap.

Salt water rinse too I had pain like this it was a seed stuck inbetween my teeth made my gums swell

You have my sympathy toothache is the worst pain!! I also think you could have an abscess, I used to avoid the dentist so have been there!! I used to use clove oil and a heated pad (one of the microwavable ones) . I also found if you sleep propped up at night that eases the pain makes it worse if you lie flat 🙁.

When I was a nurse, I remember a patient who couldn’t swallow tablets. Unfortunately she needed to take a certain drug that was only available in tablet form. She kept shortbread biscuits by her bed and used to chew up her tablets with a mouthful of biscuit at the same time to mask the taste.

My DBro learned to swallow tablets by swallowing skittles with water instead. I don’t know why it worked but it did. Might be worth a try when you’re feeling better.

Why can't you swallow tablets? Try crushing the pills and mixing it with a pot of yoghurt or mousse?
