What is Glossy box? Is it a MLM? A friend of mine is using it and spending quite a lot of money every month on subscriptions. She is encouraging all her friends to subscribe. I would like to know more about it. Thanks

Not an MLM. Same as Birchbox etc

Not very good in my opinion.

You pay £10-12 a month for a box of 5 'sample' sized beauty products. Usually brands you've never heard of and a lot of skincare rather than makeup. Popular in tweens and teens but I cancelled after 2 boxes of crap I'd never use. Not an MLM but she'll get freebies for getting friends to sign up

Thanks for the replies.

Ah, that's a relief. Some of the reviews online were not great.

My daughter has a glossy box subscription and loves it (she is 16), she says you get a mix of sample and full size. Not something I’m interested in, but she eagerly awaits it every month.
She pays £11 a month I think?

My daughter had a subscription for two years (birthday presents), and said she loved it. She was so excited opening it every month, and it all looked lovely, even though I haven’t a clue about beauty products apart from basic stuff.

Then, a few months ago she decided to have a massive declutter and got rid of boxes and boxes of stuff, not even used. It made me feel a bit sick at all the waste. Her sister took a few bits, I took some shower gel and body lotion, and the rest went to the charity shop.

I really want to like subscription boxes, but I’ve been put off by that. Maybe they’re best for tweens/teens before they have jobs and can buy themselves anything they want, so they’ll actually try the products.

I had it for a couple of years when it first launched in the UK. It used to be fantastic. It was marketed as containing 5 high end products. After a while they dropped the "high end" description and would have items that could easily be picked up in Superdrug. I cancelled. IMO the best beauty box is Latest in Beauty where you can choose your own items or a curated box where you know what the items will be. You don't need to have a subscription. It is cheaper with a subscription but you can cancel it after your first box. In the early years of the UK Beauty Box boom I had several. I ended up with lots of unwanted dry shampoo, pale nude lipsticks, nail varnish, fake tan and hair products for damaged hair. Now I only order products which I know that I will use.

Thank you everyone. Glad it isn't a MLM. She's not a teen. I guess as long as she is enjoying it and it's not a scheme, there's no harm in it.

Look Fantastic is one of the best beauty boxes going imo. Always get a full size in a box.

Not an MLM. I quite like them. Not everyone's cup of tea thou.

How is she spending quite a lot of money every month
as far as I know it’s just a once a month thing.

She has been buying them as gifts. If she is getting money off as a reward for giving referrals then great. She asked me if I would buy some for my friends. I hadn't heard of it and recent online reviews were mixed. I was worried she was caight up in a pyramid scheme. She's lovely and I don't want her being ripped off.

I admit I was cynical and I'm happy to be proved wrong. Smile
