Disneyland Paris - how did you do it?

LighteningRidge · 07/10/2019 08:00

I'm trying to persuade DP that a holiday to Disneyland Paris would be a good idea next year to give us all something to do each day and excitement. The party will be made up of me, DP, his 2 DC (early teens) and our baby DC (who is due in Dec). Now we can't book until the dates are released later this month and I would wait until after baby is born in any event but I can't work out the best way. Is it better to book through Disney direct stay with them? They have shuttles but what about baby, do I need to take our own car seat? Would we be better to drive and arrange our own accomodation and buy tickets separately?

Does any one have any tips? I know baby will not get anything out of the holiday but as DP's DCs get older it is harder to entertain them with the simple life and I thought this would be a good idea (plus I've never been Grin)

We all struggled after 5 days of beige food first time round. Now we major on buffets - we particularly like Plaza Gardens, Agrabah, Billy Bob’s, and the buffet at DCR.

I do agree with you boo but if it was the difference of being able to go or not then I guess its worth it.

Davy Crockett is really nice. We prefer to self cater, as don't like the look of the DLP food (bit beige, as a PP said). Earl of Sandwich is nice, though. You need a car for Davy Crockett.

We are hopefully going for a few days next summer. We priced up Davy Crockett and then worked out we could do an Airbnb and get annual passes for about the same price or cheaper, but it does involve us all staying in a small studio, which might not work for you (there are only 3 of us and DD will be 7.5; if this summer hols are anything to go by, she won't be going to bed much earlier than us).

LighteningRidge · 08/10/2019 12:27

I'm so glad I've asked now. I have looked at Davy Crockett and it looks amazing. Separate bedrooms for privacy is a must. The pool looks ace and hopefully baby will be a water baby so we can all enjoy. I need to think about the car situation. I assume hire a car and take my own car seat would be possible. So much to look at. I might start a list ready to plan in Jan. Yes would look at summer hols, July when they break up for school.

Although maybe a recce is needed just to make sure I get it nailed in July Grin

We are vegetarian and Agrabah was great

gemma19846 · 08/10/2019 13:02

Eurostar was fab. Easy to do, takes you straight to the park, journeys nice and relaxed, they have a small (expensive) kiosk for drinks and snacks. Then a nice ride through France to the park

harly1821 · 08/10/2019 13:07

I didnt realise she mentioned anything about being vegetarian

Couple of tips for you:

Download the free app now to help you plan your trip. See my note at the end.

Booked the travel part myself:
I flew from Edinburgh to Charles de Gaulle and took tgv train which was so much quicker than the Mickey Mouse airport transfer bus.

Booked the rest through DLP holidays:
There's an extra service that keep your luggage for you when you arrive at the train station, means when you arrive you can just go straight into the park - yay! Same for when you check out to go home, leave your bags safely at the train station.

We got a deal of free additional days eg pay for 3 nights get 4 nights.
Half board plus also gives you extra snack vouchers to be used through the park. Means you get a daily drink & donut/ice cream at some of the stalls. Could be a saviour when kids kick off!

We got extra park hours, we were ok to go into the park 2 hours before doors opened to the public.

Definitely book your restaurants before you go - this absolutely saved our holiday!!!
As other folk thought they could just turn up, queue and get a table for all their family - errr no! That's a nightmare especially as the themed restaurants are fab eg Remy's, and when your kids are hungry it's great to say ok lunch is booked at x place at 1pm, dinner booked at x place at 6pm.
Reserve by calling the dlp holiday helpline after I'd booked the holiday.
If you don't book in advance you may end up in the Fast food joint of chicken nuggets and fries, fighting for a table to all sit down.

There are shuttle buses to/from the hotels but ours (New York themed) was walking distance to the park doors.

Look at getting Fast Pass for getting on to the rides you want without queuing, again it's a god send!

Think you can get a Disney pram when ur there - best to ask about this when you call the dlp helpline.
Also ask if there are any other services available as there will no doubt be new things since we were there.

Download the free app that shows you a map of the park - you can see where all the rides and restaurants are. Also showing you the length of time of the queues for the rides.

Taking the time to do these planning tasks will be worth it - trust me, you will have the time of your lives!!!!

EmeraldIsle81 · 08/10/2019 13:51

Oh, I just saw on the app that you can book a few if the things I suggested - restaurants and fast pass etc. Worth a good look at what else you can do on there!

NeedAnExpert · 08/10/2019 14:09

It’s more of a converted shopping trolley than a pram and it costs €15 a day. I wouldn’t think it was suitable for a small baby.

gemma19846 · 08/10/2019 14:38

Sorry HARL someone mentioned it i didnt read the whole thread 🙄🙄

Newhomenewarea · 08/10/2019 14:51

The teenagers will definitely want to go right? I have a 14 year old DD, she would go because her 2.5 and 4 year old sisters would want to go but it wouldn't be where she would chose to go

Ourala · 08/10/2019 18:05

It's a bad idea to book just after the birth of a new baby. You don't know how the pregnancy will go. I ending up in crutches in my fifth month and was still crippled for a few months after the birth, if I'd booked a holiday like that, we would not have been able to go. I think your partner is not right not wanted to go at this time.

LighteningRidge · 08/10/2019 19:02

They are young teens and I think a holiday away from the normal holidays we have done would go down well but I would obviously get DP to check in advance as he would need to make sure his ex is happy with the arrangement too.

@Ourala the baby is due in the next 2 months so would be 7 months old minimum by the time we went. I would also ensure our holiday was fully insured at the time we booked to cover any event where any of us could no longer go. I have experienced before how important insurance is and I now will never book a holiday without insuring it at the same time. But I do understand your point completely.

Whoever said above that the best rides don’t open in EMH is talking rubbish.

Crush and The Rat both open EMH in the studios

Pan, Buzz, Big Thunder Mountain and Hyperspace Mountain are all open. Along with others.

linentowel · 08/10/2019 19:17

The shuttle can often be more expensive than a private taxi.

That’s new then. Used to be only the main park and not HSM or BTM. Had to wait for rope drop for them.
