Too hot in bed

purpleme12 · 06/10/2019 23:23

I have 4.5 quilt in bed
I'm still too hot. Our house is not a hot house at all, colder than a lot of people have their houses. A sheet is too thin and I can't sleep with nothing on me. Is there anything thinner than this?

Make sure you use 100% cotton bedding. A lot of cheaper bedding has a high proportion of polyester fibres and they make you sweat.

I can't cope with duvets at all, until it gets into deep midwinter. Blankets are great! Totally adjustable for the perfect temperature. I actually don't understand why the entire world went over to duvets - they're awful things!

I'm a big fan of wool blankets too. Also now a dab hand at adjusting the amount of covers as the night goes on - I need to be toasty to get to sleep but then get too hot about 2.00 am. Chuck a couple of layers off then straight back to sleep, which you can't do with a duvet.

If you're waking with headaches as well as being too hot despite having a coldish house, I think you should visit the gp before buying new bedding.

Rachelover60 · 07/10/2019 14:09

I think you just feel hot. Sometimes we do, no point reading any more in to it.

I always found sticking a leg out cooled me down.

Not so hot now though, is it, so you should be more comfortable. Hope so anyway.

I use a cotton blanket. Sometimes I get too hot with that, though!

I'm the same as you OP. I couldn't afford to replace the mattress so I invested in a natural mattress topper and bamboo bedding. It's a bit more expensive but really worth it. I ditched the quilt as even the low tog was too much for me. I bought a bed spread instead. I got it from Amazon and the bed spread with the top sheet is perfect for me.
Hope that helps you.

Quite a few suggestions here! I wasn't expecting so much!

I need to write them all down and look into them now xx

Two more one cheap one expensive

Silk duvet (expensive)

Cotton cellular blanket (like a hospital one)

boringisasboringdoes · 07/10/2019 22:41

@MrsKHB what mattress topper did you get? I would like one but fear being roasted

Hecateh · 07/10/2019 22:48

I was struggling with heat the same.

I've just got a 2 tog silk duvet from amazon - cheapest one I could find - It's great.

purpleme12 · 07/10/2019 22:49

Quite glad I posted about this now!

Naked with light duvet Bliss!

moanyhole · 08/10/2019 03:55

I use a fleece blanket. Works great

MrsKHB · 10/10/2019 02:30

Boring, sorry I'm late back to this. It's a natural wool topper. I thought the same as you, that it'd be too hot but it's not at all. I get a decent nights sleep now but still need the fan on some nights.

boringisasboringdoes · 10/10/2019 07:33

Thanks Mrs

RaymondStopThat · 10/10/2019 17:47

Here's the topper range we've got. They are bloody marvellous!
