Agony after mirena fitting - normal?

Had a mirena fitted Tuesday, it hurt a bit and then I had cramps for two days then Friday and Saturday it appeared to have settled.

But today I have the worst period pain, it is making me feel sick. Can someone reassure me this is a normal reaction? I have tried to feel for the strings but could only find one.

I had the same - severe pain from the moment it went in - and it never got better really, it was like having constant period pain . Landed up having it taken out two years later (GP refused to believe I could possibly be that sore) .

Posted too early - I would try see a GP tomorrow if you can, they were quite keen for me to come back in and have an ultrasound initially to make sure it hadn’t shifted or anything . They were also able to prescribe strong analgesia at first too .

I had one fitted two weeks ago and haven't had any pain at all, I'd definitely see a doctor or go to a walk-in if it's severe.

Definitely not normal. I'd call 111.

So could be a normal reaction or not. I was really hoping this was going to be the answer to my heavy bleeding. Not sure I can face having it removed

Thanks x

It's worth them checking it's still in place, I ended up expelling mine when I had bad pain.

HabbyHadno · 06/10/2019 12:43

Did they give you a leaflet with what to expect after? I'd be trying to get to see someone if I were you, is there a walk in you can go to nearby? Or call 111 to get an appt

I was told my first period could be heavier than normal then settle. However it's been 3pnths and I haven't had a period yet.
Haven't been able to locate the strings since they put it in.

God yes, I had the worst pain. It also hurt so much being put in that I yelped and she said "we know it's hit the right place then". I've had mine a few months and it's calmed now but ever time I bled the cramps were bad. Hoping it's worth it for the next 4.5years now though

When I had my first one fitted I had mild cramping and then felt terrible for a few days. I took time of uni and lay in bed crying! I was panicking I had an infection but it all settled down. I've been lucky and got on well with the coil, my endometriosis pain is near non existant now.

I would call if you are concerned.

I had bad pains in my legs and stomach for about two months afterwards! Still get them now when my period is supposedly due (I don't really bleed at all) and it's been fitted 5 months

I'm thinking back 4 years, but I had terrible cramps day of the fitting and intermittent cramps over the next few days which went away if I took naproxen and buscopan.
