Warm and waterproof kids coat?!

User24689 · 06/10/2019 07:26

Hi! Can anyone recommend a decent winter coat for a 4 year old that it both warm and waterproof? Don't really want to spend more than £40. I've seen some nice puffer type ones around but they say 'water repellent' which I'm pretty sure isn't the same thing as waterproof and the waterproof ones feel too thin!

DD has just started school and the school is known for sending the kids out in all weathers so I just really want her to be warm!

I was going to post the Trespass jacket then saw it was already on here

DS had one for years and they are really fab jackets

We bought this style for DD last year and again for this year. It’s very versatile.

Look in mountain warehouse when the sales are on.I used to get DD those with the zip in fleece. They can wear them seperatly and in summer with the fleece out they still fit even if your child's grown quite a bit.
You can buy iron on patches if unicorns required.

We will only ever buy Muddy Puddles Blizzard coats now (but only when they are on sale!). This one is on sale: https://www.muddypuddles.com/blizzard-winter-jacket-navy-log/

Ah sorry, have just realised the Blizzard coat I linked too is for age 9! Keep an eye on the sales though! They are brilliant.

Another vote for trespass. Like a PP I got a school one on M&M for £12 over the summer.

Came on to recommend the same Boden one that has already been posted. But new and then sell on eBay afterwards. Warm, waterproof, well made and hold their value.

We’ve had a few of these over the last 10 years. They are superb.

Selling my daughter’s Didrikson 4-6 years. 110 Cm.

I honestly can’t recommend more highly. Little touches like extendable sleeves for when they grow, and so warm but not at all heavy or cumbersome.

Pm if you’d like more info

I get my daughters coats from Joules. Expensive but usually get at least 2 years out of them, and they often have sales. I got my boys ones from debenhams, think it was Lands End. They have a few proper waterproof ones.

Mountain warehouse, ds has one for nursery seems to be very good. It's one of those 3 in 1 with fleece that can be zipped inside for warmth.

Mine have/had these last year. Never cold or wet the whole winter.

We got some similar to these last year and have been very pleased with them - this seems to be the current year's version of them and available in several different colours: tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Khaki-Performance-Parka-Coat-%283-14-years%29/135266615-Khaki?searchTerm=:newArrivals:type:Coats&searchProduct=
They say "showerproof" but with taped side seams, but ours have seemed pretty effective so far.

My son has a really thick hooded Timberland coat which I bought for £10 on eBay.

I bought my children coats from Next for the first time. Absolutely fantastic quality. Under 49 quid too.

My 4 have Lidl ones. They are great. They have a fleece lining inside & cuffed sleeves and bottom to prevent water getting inside. They were £8 each so a real bargain!

Gap parkas are fab. They often have discount codes so you get them much cheaper. I had a 40% code so think I paid about £40 instead of £70. We got caught in torrential rain. I was soaked in a north face rain coat. My daughter was bone dry.

I’ve recently left Boden for coats and gone over to Muddy Puddles. The Boden coat we used to get was updated (and ruined) and the muddy puddles coats really are the business for warmth and waterproofing. They are all in bold unisex colours too which makes it easy fit handing down and selling on.

Be careful buying second hand as some people don’t know that waterproof clothing shouldn’t be washed with regular washing powder, and the waterproofing will be compromised if it has. If your number one priority is that it’s waterproof, it’ll be very disappointing if it’s not.

Mountain warehouse are very good- it's a permanent sale according to the people that work there. (and additional discounts always using codes). DS has a waterproof from there always and they cost less than £25.
