Help, I keep losing bladder control!!

I’ve not had children and I’m mid 40s.
(I’ve also name changed but long standing poster, pom bears, naice ham, EKL).

I can hold my bladder just fine when I need a wee until I actually get to the loo. When I get into the toilet then that’s it if I can’t get my pants etc down in time.

What do I need to do?
What are the best exercises?

I don’t know. You could try some pelvic exercises. I wish I had some useful advice.

Maybe go to the toilet quicker rather than waiting til you're bursting?? If you can hold it til you see a toilet you obviously don't have a medical problem

You're describing 'urge incontinence '. See your GP for a referral to the lady physio and look up Gussie Grips - a physio mumsnetter on a mission to fix our pelvic floors

I’m not waiting until I’m bursting. Earlier today I didn’t even need the loo until I had got up and was doing stuff.

Also, I’m a teacher so I can only go at certain times. However, this isn’t a problem at work, only home.

Are you perimenopausal? Hormonal fluctuations can cause this oversensitivity.

Please check for spinal red flag symptoms. If you have then you need a and e NOW

Op go to go, they will refer you. I am part way through this process, have been referred, had initial app with consultant at hospital who was amazing, could spot issue, talked about not just my lifestyle but women's lives and I have been referred for physio.

Why should you spend your time worrying about incontinence at any level and problems it brings?

Consultant advised it takes on average a woman 10 years to go to go / take action re pelvic issues.

You sound like me, OP.

Pelvic floor pelvic floor pelvic floor. If I don't do them, I have this. Same first thing in the morning when I get out of bed - I have to leg it to the lav and it's worse in the winter, yet when camping I can get out in the chill and walk all the way down a wet field without a problem.

It's as if as soon as my brain knows a bog is near, it lets my pelvic floor go.

Hence the pelvic floor exercises every.bloody.day.

Possibly peri menopausal. I’ve not been to the doctor about it.

I’ll go to the gp about it. I’ll admit I don’t do pelvic floor exercises but I thought that not having had children meant I didn’t really need to that much.

My friend who is a nurse told me recently that we have two sphincters. I must admit I had no idea.
Once we release one sphincter- for example once we have gone into the bathroom - the need to release the second can feel quite pressing.
So .. once we know we are in a situation where we will be able to urinate soon, we stop holding on and we can’t really reverse that process .. as I understand it.
