(Lighthearted)
Any why know why 24hr McDonald's shut drive through but remain open inside?
My 11 month has been up since 2, gave up at 4 and took him for a drive thought I'll grab a coffee while driving around but I dont fancy getting out in my pjs! (And getting him out)!
For some reason I thought they would be the other way round... Confused

Ours is the other way around. Drive through is 24 hours and the restaurant shuts earlier.

I wouldn't be worried about going in in your Pj's, they're probably used to it!!

No idea but I agree,I thought it would be the other way around! Like petrol stations at night, you have to go to the hatch.

Allice · 04/10/2019 05:26

I have no idea but I'd have thought the same as you. Keep the people out and seven through the drive through. Unless they gave lots of customers on foot?

Firefly89 · 04/10/2019 05:49

@Fatted ha they probably are used to it!
It's odd both are at 'ruff' areas as well 🤔 one is near clubs so I guess they get alot of foot traffic but the other is not... 3rd one is shut. Looks like its boring home coffee

Possibly because they have a skeleton staff at night and running the drive through requires more people?

Priexo · 04/10/2019 08:40

At the store I work at we have minimal staff on the overnight. The shift pattern of the "closing" staff on til midnight or 1 often means overnight breaks have to go out and be back before the closing staff leave to ensure we've still got 3 staff on the floor after 1 when everyone there to cover has gone (one for booth 1 order taking / payments, one for kitchen, and one for front counter). The manager also has to do "system" at 12 meaning they go off the floor to reboot tills, run the system update on the computer and do a nightly inventory count.

As a result for most managers it's easier to close drive thru off for an hour so they can ensure staff have breaks before closing staff leave, than to struggle with 2 people - as the kitchen person can't flex out into booth 1 to take payments as they'd have to wash hands every single time they handle money before making food again, and the front counter person would have to run up and down the store continuously whilst also trying to take orders in-store, serve orders in-store, and in the drive thru. With it off it means they can just focus in store.

Priexo · 04/10/2019 08:43

Some stores have even less staff and keep it off altogether, as only need 2 staff to stay open. Could be anything from till updates, issues with tills, perhaps down a staff member, underscheduled or not enough staff, etc.

Priexo
Thanks for that. OP probably thinks they all just sit around waiting for her to order coffee.

daffodilrosedaisy · 04/10/2019 08:50

Might be partly for people who drive as a job (lorry drivers etc.) who have to stop for X amount of time - gives them an actual place to sit?

sashh · 04/10/2019 09:49

one is near clubs so I guess they get alot of foot traffic

If it was the other way round you would get drunks walking through the drive through which, well you can imagine.

Those of you who work in Maccys, why and how can it be 'too early' for breakfast?

StarBubbles · 04/10/2019 11:27

I work at a 24hr McDonald's. Once we had to close the drive thru because we were cleaning the drains there. It could be something as simple and mundane as that.

Priexo gave a good explanation of why it might be closed for staffing reasons too.
