Upper eye lid is swollen and aches so much. Have put a warm flannel on and off on it tonight but hurts so much. Any other remedies???

Has it formed around an eyelash? If so, get some tweezers and pull it. It'll hurt for a couple of seconds but then drain.

No dont think so.

Take some ibuprofen or paracetamol to ease the pain and keep using the warm flannel. They are really sore, you have my sympathies.

Put some cotton wool around a wooden spoon & bathe the eye in boiled cooled water. Buy some eye ointment from the pharmacy.

whyamidoingthis · 03/10/2019 23:41

Chamomile tea. Stew a tea bag for at least 5-10 minutes. Then soak the eye with cotton wool soaked in the tea. Repeat several times a day. Keep the tea in the fridge for a couple of days.

I've had a horrible stye for a week, which is on its way out now, thank goodness - so massive sympathy to you OP, they are really uncomfortable. I used hot flannels for a couple of days and then started antibiotic ointment, chloramphenicol (Goldeneye), available OTC, kept up the hot flannels before each application as well as I found them soothing.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/10/2019 23:55

I second yanking the guilty eyelash if you can identify it.

Nat6999 · 03/10/2019 23:57

My ds had a stye, not on his lash line but higher up on his lid. His eye swelled to the stage he looked like he had a black eye. Ended up with strong antibiotics for a week, it never burst but eventually shrank & disappeared.

MsLumley · 04/10/2019 07:02

I second Golden Eye - I had a style recently and it blasted the little fucker into oblivion within a day or two.

nitgel · 04/10/2019 07:06

Dont yank out the eyelash it will take mo to to grow back. Optrex sell warming eye masks, i had a fre styes a while back and this mask really helped you have to keep holding it on until it gets cooler, then repeat. The masks stay warmer much longer than using water.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/10/2019 08:34

My dr gave me antibiotics and topical antibiotics for mine. The relief was immense.

CanISpeakToYourManager · 04/10/2019 08:37

I rub my wedding ring on mine. The metal is antimicrobial. They usually go. Plus hot compresses, and eventually Dr appt if needed.

Overseasmom100 · 04/10/2019 22:28

My grandmother and mother rubbed it with a gold ring so now I do, it has always worked for us. Weird or what.

flissity · 04/10/2019 22:38

Whenever we had them as children our mum would rub her gold wedding ring. - it did always seem to work!

Ohyesiam · 04/10/2019 22:42

Keep up with the hot flannels10 minutes 4 times a day.

melmo26 · 04/10/2019 22:58

Was always a pound coin in my house. Still do it now if anyone in the house gets one.
Always gone quickly.

ThymenBasil · 04/10/2019 23:00

Keep going with hot compress to draw it out while still infected. Otherwise you will end up with a lump that takes months to reabsorb.

Alabasterangel6 · 04/10/2019 23:05

The gold ring thing is actually quite a good idea, as per the above. That’s why the ‘goldeneye’ cream is called just that - but it’s something to do with rubbing though more than it being a gold ring. I think you could rub it with a silver ring and the same effect would be had.
