I was the victim of a rogue trader last year and still seething

June 2018, I was on maternity leave. Boiler on its last legs. Hoping it can limp on until I’m back to work.

Unfortunately I picked badly. New to the area I requested the local area Facebook group for recommendations.
Little did I know that the flood of recommendations for one company that shortly came in were all from members of this companies friends and family.

I won’t go into loads of details as its been a long and tiring process and despite reporting it to trading standards, rogue traders, gas safe, and the local Facebook group admins I got nowhere.

After becoming ill through stress and having other things going on I ended up paying to stop the threatening and bullying tactics they were using.

I’m still seething though.
They are still out there.

The Facebook group didn’t even remove the people of the company from their group and I see it regularly when someone asks for a plumber recommendation that these same responses come flooding in and I just hate that they are still out there ripping people off.

I wish there was something I could do.
I can only hope karma will get them.
It must take a very miserable existence to make a living from doing something so dishonest.

You could sue them OP in the small claims court ...I do share your frustration though I too was scammed ...It was only 300 .00 for a childs 7th birthday party but it was awful. She took the money is still advertising and carrying on regardless.I got the banks involved they did nothing ..I went to the police they did nothing only advised me to get in touch with Action fraud and report it they did nothing....The level of abuse I recieved from her was beyond horrific but still she wouldnt pay me back...I gave up in the end as I couldnt put a small claims court in because I only had her email and not full address. For the victims it stinks.I thought fraud was a genuine thing the police would deal with but no .....I empathise with you sincerly I do I have been there and was even told by trading standards it wasnt their kind of thing to deal with..so who the hell does deal with it? to this day i have no clue.but it seems to me that people can do as they wish when they wish and steal and lie and victims just have to suck it up ..its horrible and I am sorry it happened to you too....

I feel for you OP. Got to trading standards as this person may be well known. I was scammed a few years ago and although it was only for £90, he was well known and had scammed literally hundreds of people. He finally got his day in court recently and it was so satisfying to see him squirm in the dock 😂

Small claims court. It's a lot easier than you think.

Are they members of the travelling community albeit without the travelling?

I took on a family advertising animals for sale on Facebook who were not the loving family selling precious pets but hardened abusers using innocent creatures to make money.

I waded in without realising how many relatives and friends there were involved and received threats etc and had to walk away as I was advised by the police that these people if provoked are not shy of carrying out their threats and they hold grudges for a lifetime.

Just be very careful who you are taking on if you do decide to take matters further.
