Small present idea for dementia patient in a care home

I want to give a very small present to a lady who's living in a care home. She really has everything she needs. I don't know her all that well so it can't be too personal. She doesn't have much of an appetite so food isn't really an option.

Bed socks or just funky socks. Shower gel. Sweets. - What does she like? What were her hobbies previously? What's the care home like? A fleece blanket for the bed which can also be used as a shawl, wheelchair lap blanket.

If you look on amazon for 'dementia books' they have ranges of books suitable for people with dementia, from novels which have a simplified plot and sentence structure, through to picture books on different topics e.g animals, views etc. A book of pictures and limited text about the town where she grew up can also go down well, as I believe the older memories linger longest.

My grandmother has dementia and she loves adult colouring books. She can sit for hours colouring them in she finds it very relaxing. Maybe an idea?

Fiddle blanket?

Or something to look at- flowers, pot plant, hanging crystals, picture in stand up frame.

Yeah I'd say a fidget mitt too, they seem to go down very well with the dementia residents I know x

I was going to suggest a twiddle muff! It's like a fingerless glove but with buttons and bits sewn onto them which are helpful for dementia sufferers. I think they're often sold through various dementia charities - our area often has volunteer knit a thons to supply the shops.

Or, a dolly. Lots of ladies I know love looking after a baby doll, cuddling etc. Makes many dementia patients feel useful and needed especially if they had their own children and grandchildren x

A couple of the ladies where I work (dementia nursing home) have handbags with lots of zips, and inside are empty compacts with a mirror and the spounge bit in, also purses inside, combs and all sorts of bits and bobs that they would have had in their handbag. Keeps them happily searching about in the bag for a long time.
One has a large toy sheepdog, and a cat. We have a couple of cats that are battery operated and pur and breathe but they cost about £20 to £30 each.
