Anti depressants

I really need some advice, I am going to the GP on this matter but I would like other views, also at the GP I feel it's rushed etc .

I think I need to go on antidepressants, but I'm not sure if I should. I do have mild depression but it manifests in anger. Every day I think about bad events in my life and get angry and have imaginary arguments strange I know !! I can lash out over minor things too sometimes, like if my partner says something to annoy me.

I am also on the mini pill so would it effect that? I'm very worried of side affects, my cousin said her hugh weight gain was due to antidepressants.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

There are many different antidepressants that treat a range of symptoms. For example some are particularly good at treating anxiety.
Talk to your dr about your concerns. They will be the best ones to advise you.

I'm autistic and I take sertraline which helps with my anger which my depression mainly manifests as. I can totally recommend an ssri for it, but you might need to try a couple of different types before you hit on the one which suits. I was on citalopram, but that made me bolshy and hyper.

As above OP there are a range of medicines available but you need to discuss it with your GP. Be assertive, write down on paper any questions you have and worries and go through them in the appointment.

The pill can contribute to anxiety and depression as an aside. Perhaps look into CBT as it can be very helpful to break down bad habits with things such as negative thoughts and obsessing. Understanding why you do it is a very helpful thing, rather than just medicating it.

I did have counselling previously and have looked up self help on you tube but it doesn't seem to help, I don't think the mini pill has effected the depression as I always been this way from my teens.
