What would you pick? Chilled food fine. Only a kettle so no means of heating stuff. No allergies

Don't worry about crumbs, as a pp suggested use a blanket or scarf. Just don't lean your bum into the hummus (sp?!).

pasturesgreen · 03/10/2019 19:00

Borrowing ideas for when I go away with work next week!

To the pp who said it probably adds up to the price of a cheap dinner out, for me the point is not so much saving money (although I'm sure I'd spend more if I ate out), but being able to relax, shower and remove makeup, and just unwind in front of the tv. By the time it's 7 or 8pm, I've usually had enough of being in 'outside' mode, so a laid back hotel picnic is just bliss.

i work away from home, don't eat eat or fish and can't eat gluten so I do this all the time when staying in hotels. I have a cool bag in the boot to store any leftovers [for the next night].

TheAlternativeTentacle · 04/10/2019 07:38

Hotels usually have a desk that you can put it on; also, anything that needs a fridge can go onto the window ledge for the night - esp this time of year.

Silvercatowner · 04/10/2019 07:44

Slightly off thread, but are hotels generally happy to take deliveries of take away food, deliveroo etc?

bruffin · 04/10/2019 07:45

Depends on Hotel, in Vegas they blocked the phone number to the local pizza place.

Trooperslaneagain · 04/10/2019 07:55

I so miss my work travelling -though it was far too bloody much for an excuse to get a pret picnic for the train and a bedroom picnic, after a bath and in jammies.

Bliss. Might just do it in the living room tonight and send DH out!

I often take a cool box if im staying and couple of a days and doing sandwiches for lunch, i usually get dinner at family if I'm doing this though. This time just an overnight before an early flight and arriving by train, so no car for us. Just like to start the holiday i bit nice i think

You don't get crumbs in the bed because you put down a scarf or similar or sit on the floor/armchair/desk chair and the bed is made anyway. You're not IN bed, but on it.

If there is a supermarket nearby, we will get
Hot roast chicken
And Crusty bread to make hot sandwiches
Mayonnaise
Posh crisps
Deli bit and pieces like sun dried tomatoes or tiny red peppers
Gu pots or trifle

Otherwise the usual deli meats and cheese.

ChippyMinton · 04/10/2019 08:07

Pork pies!

MorrisZapp · 04/10/2019 08:09

(I think my people are on this thread, not the other one)

Bendicks Mints. Can't stay in a hotel without them. BEFORE 7PM YOU FILTHY ANIMALS.

jackstini · 04/10/2019 08:15

I do mix and match tapas - usually 3 for £6/7 depending on supermarket
Mini wine bottle if it's just me drinking!

pumkinspicetime · 04/10/2019 14:04

Mini wine bottles are perfect for these occasions, or now you can get decent wine in cans.

BiddyPop · 04/10/2019 14:12

I did this in Spain last week:
Hummus and flatbreads
Cherry tomatoes
Iberico ham
Pre-sliced manchego cheese
Bottle of wine (and a new corkscrew - no screw caps available!)
Bottle of fizzy water (offset the wine)
2 lovely donut peaches

It was my dinner 1 night and remains were lunch in the airport next day.
