Why the hell don't Lidl have safety straps on their trolley seats?

Went to my local store with 16mo DS in tow. I usually just nip in with the buggy while I'm in town but today we got a trolley. Holy hell that was the most stressful 20 minutes ever! All he was trying to do was climb out because there was no bloody strap to keep him in place! I always shop at Aldi and their trolleys (trollies?) all have straps (unless they're broken). What a stupid idea to not have them on Confused

I've never known a trolley seat strap actually work to keep a child in place so well done for making them work (when they are there)

I thought this exact thing last week with DS 22 months I genuinely couldn’t get my shop done because I couldn’t go to the other end of the trolley without him trying to climb out! Blush

You need to give them a box of raisins to keep them busy. Lasts about 5 aisles unless they drop them. Wink

Ah, that's why you give them something as you go round and pay for the empty box.
When Dd was little it was the only time she was allowed a dairylea dunker Wink

The Aldi near me didn't have straps on the trolleys until quite recently. My son used to try to stand up constantly and scream when prevented from doing so. Food shopping was hell!
One week I asked a member of staff why they didn't have straps and he said they were coming soon. The very next week ds threw something while queing at the cashier and as I turned to pick it up he launched himself head first out of the trolley and smacked his head on the floor. That was the last time I did a full food shop there. I'm a Tesco convert now. They have trolley straps and those scanny machines, what more could you want?!
Apparently Aldi now have trolley straps but I'm not interested in trying them out.
This is a long and probably boring story. Sorry! I'm still angry at them for their lack of trolley straps.

The lidl near me does.. Altho if I am somewhere that doesn't have them (when my son was younger and wigglyer) I used my Baby carrier to strap him in. Give that a go

I used to clip DC reins' harness through the bars of the seat . Kept them in place .

I once ( ONCE ) let DS rummage through my bag , he found a Nutella portion (peel off lid , small plastic tub)
Little swine managed to open it , eat it and wear most of it Grin

The checkout operator gave me some wipes .

I used to bring a soft scarf and tie it round their middles and the back of the trolley seat.

makingmiracles · 02/10/2019 20:40

My lidl doesn’t either. I don’t shop ther that often but I bought a wide luggage strap off eBay that I just feed through bars of the seat and round child, clips up as per normal trolley straps(even better in fact as clip is large and stiff for a child to try and undo) , job done! Was around £3

When did trolleys start having straps? Surely I'm not that old. My DC are teens now but I dont recall straps on trolley seats

goose1964 · 02/10/2019 20:46

Our Tesco has free fruit for children DGS once had a tantrum because he'd been asleep when I went past the fruit. I had to turn around sharpish for a 'nana. Keeps him busy for a whole shop.

User478 · 02/10/2019 20:49

Use the twin trolleys. They have straps

PatricksRum · 02/10/2019 20:49

This is why you need a sling/ baby carrier. It's perfect for these situations.

JoyceDivision · 02/10/2019 20:51

I've improvised with my belt on many an occasion when DC were young, or had to shop with one hand while other hand gripping trolley handle and DC top scrunched in same hand to try and hold them in 😂

I suspect that whatever straps they provide they become liable if something happens & if parents don't fasten them as they should be (ie too loose) … I always took my own straps -no probs than
