Does anyone actually make money on eBay?

If so- how?

I’m selling lots of DD clothes. Don’t get me wrong, I want to get rid of them more than anything. But the bids just aren’t very high. I made a little bundle with her Joules coat, Boden dress and some other dresses. It went for £6!

I myself get loads of bargains on there and do get lots of great stuff second hand. I’m just wondering if eBay is better for the buyers now rather than the sellers?

How can I make more money from it? I was hoping to make enough so I can buy some cute things in the next size up. Grin

There is a selling page of fb dedicated to selling joules boden etc they tend to get £6 per item might be worth getting shot on there instead

PerfectPeony2 · 02/10/2019 15:18

Oh brilliant thank you @Nousernameforme ! I’ll take a look (will probably end up spending more than I make!)

I always sell BIN as that way I get to set a minimum selling price that I’m happy with. I’d rather wait a bit longer and make a decent amount. This year my eBay sales have paid for a Mulberry bag, amongst other things.

BIN is the answer. You'd be surprised how many people are happy to pay more and just buy the stuff without the hassle of bidding, watching, increasing the bid etc. There are huge numbers of people who just bid the minimum amount and walk away if someone else bids more - they're just after bargain basement and are probably people buying to resell anyway (via BIN!).

PerfectPeony2 · 02/10/2019 15:27

I think that’s what I’ll have to start doing if I use eBay. As bidding seems to stay super low. I just wanted to avoid the extra fees. I suppose it’s not that much though if you get a decent price!

I make money and always do BIN. Never have auction as an option!

It's still free to list (unless you have an auction AND a BIN I think) so no extra fees if it sells in the first month. I think it charges if you do automatic re-list though so you need to watch out for that.

PerfectPeony2 · 02/10/2019 15:37

Right so I tried to change the listing I’ve just done to BIN but I think because I’ve already added it I only have the option for auction and BIN.

Next stuff I add I’m just going to stick with BIN because I can’t be bothered! Seems the way to go if there won’t be any extra fees.

About to get all my little girls designer dresses out of the loft (0-3/ 3-6 month stuff she didn’t wear as she had reflux and lived in a baby grows!).

You can cancel the listing as long as no one has bid (select ‘error in listing option’ or similar), then re-list as BIN.

Ninkaninus · 02/10/2019 15:53

There’s a 10% selling fee on BIN which is taken monthly (unless you take advantage of special offer free listings).

I sell on eBay for a charity. Not as a business seller but all profit going to the charity. I do very well with most of the things I sell with only the occasional item taking a bit longer and that’s usually because it’s not the right season to be selling it.

PhantomErik · 02/10/2019 15:58

I list everything as a buy it now price or best offer.

I think people pay more for things they can just buy when they're ready not have to remember for the next few days until the auction ends. I definately do!

grafittiartist · 02/10/2019 16:01

I leave lots of things on auction, then leave the money in. I get about 50 for Christmas.
It's more of a way to save for me.

Another thing, if you have designer baby clothes to sell, don't bundle them. Sell separately.
