Keeping hot dogs warm

Yep crazy chat here!
So doing whole class party at at activity centre outside. Have to provide food. No delivery options available. So want to bring something warm and easy. If I cook hotdogs and warm rolls then wrap in foil...will that be rank?
My mum suggested putting a hot water bottle in the box? I think that's not a great idea. Any other ideas as to how I can manage this? Thanks.

Thermos flasks for the hotdogs!

TickleMyTitsTilFriday · 02/10/2019 10:10

Yes Thermos flask, boiling water. It's brilliant!

lululup · 02/10/2019 11:10

So just checking here. Do you mean fill it with hot water and cook them? Or cook them and then put them in there without water?
Also would a big one hold 30 hotdogs?

Do they have an office on site and do you have / can you borrow a slow cooker??? Then you can heat them in that.

Oldraver · 02/10/2019 11:15

You don't need to cook most hotdogs just warm them through, so putting into a thermos should suffice.

I've put them on a slow cooker before now but obviously you need an electric point,

How many do you need ?

lululup · 02/10/2019 11:16

Thank you but no electricity available otherwise I'd do this very thing.

Hot dogs are already cooked. If you put them in a thermos with boiling water, it will heat them through. Warm the rolls and wrap them in foil and put in a cool box

Marmite27 · 02/10/2019 11:22

Warm the hot dogs in a slow cooker. Drain the water off and transport in the warmed bowl (it stays hot for ages). Add a flask of boiling water at the venue. It will keep them warm for about an hour without plugging it in. I normally put the cooker to warm at this point, but don’t think you need to.

Nottobesoldseparately · 02/10/2019 11:47

Plug in cool/hot box in your car?

And 1 hot dog per child after an activity? Are you sure that will be enough?

lululup · 02/10/2019 13:23

Thank you. It's a sort of snack between lunch and dinner so hopefully with cake and crisps, it will be ok. And they're just 8. I think I'll go with the slow cooker idea.

When I goggled whether it was ok to eat hotdogs without heating, the answer seemed to be no. Listeria etc.

Camping stove and cook the sausages fresh?

Obviouspretzel · 02/10/2019 13:28

Lidl and Aldi ones in the packet say you can eat hot or cold. Not that I would serve them cold for this. The hot water bottle will do nothing. Thermos should work though that sounds best if no slow cooker.

I’ve done this. Took a wide jug, but a large Tupperware would do, anything to fit them in. At the venue I opened the hot dog packets, put them in the jug, then poured a thermos of near boiling water on them. A few minutes later they were nice and hot and ready to go. Worked brilliantly.

Marmite27 · 02/10/2019 18:12

We bought 65p tinned ones, they said hot or cold on the ton

lululup · 02/10/2019 21:09

@Soola cute dog!

Yep think I'll do that. In a container and pour hot water over them. 🤞🏼

Sorry, I'm slightly pissed, but I misread this as 'Keeping dogs bums warm' Blush
