I was in Waitrose earlier with my dd. The lady on the till asked her where she went to school. My dd said where, but then said she was changing schools soon. She asked why. My daughter obviously came across as sad about this.
The two partners on tills next to each other were chatting quietly. They then said that they are allowed to make small gifts to cheer people up and one of the partners took my daughter off to choose a magazine.
The result was a brilliantly, beaming dd who has genuinely had her faith restored that people can be kind. Waitrose what a lovely thing to allow your staff to do.

It's little acts like this that make the world go round. And your daughter won't forget it for a long time to come 😊

I love Waitrose. The staff are always polite and helpful. I have seen several examples of staff going out of their way to help people.

I was having a horrific day in M&S while heavily pregnant and managing 3 kids under 4. It was so horrific I nearly cried when a woman in the queue kindly gave me a spare brand new dummy from her bag (I was desperately begging two toddlers to try and find their baby sisters dropped one to no avail under the clothing racks). I just about held it together, juggled my bags, baby, bump and wallet at the till as the toddlers screamed and cried in tandem. And as I walked away catatonic with stress and exhaustion while brightly saying ‘come on everyone let’s get to the car (fucking miles away)’ a member of staff jumped out at me and shouted ‘random act of kindness!’ And handed me a box of M&S biscuits. She was horrified when I crumpled into tears and they had to wait ages (awkwardly) till I could get my shit together again. She both gave me a fright and I was overwhelmed to be given free biscuits among the shitty shitness.

It still remains my worst and (somewhat) funniest memory from one of my hardest few hrs as a mum. I still feel sorry for me thinking about it.

Love this. So sweet. Good luck to your DD in her new school

BananaBooBoo · 01/10/2019 23:24

Happyspud. Wow you were a superwoman. Hope you ate all the biscuits yourself!!

BellyButton85 have a Biscuit yourself.

Dieu · 02/10/2019 06:58

I know. What an unnecessarily bitchy comment.

Happyspud · 02/10/2019 07:47

@BellyButton85, yeah it’s been great. I just never took all three to M&S again while pregnant, waking them all up from a nap in the car. Learned my lesson. And the bump is long gone so at least I have energy and ability to move again.

Waitrose gave a bouquet to my parents when they found out they had just celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary

Cracklycaramel · 02/10/2019 07:59

I was with my dad at Waitrose one Christmas. I was heavily pregnant, dad walks with a stick and the shop was heaving so the queues to pay were massive. They had a member of staff send me and my dad to sit down while someone queued and packed our shopping, calling us back when it was time to pay. And they gave us christmas chocolate while we were waiting. I love Waitrose.

wishiwasinthesun · 02/10/2019 08:00

I shop at Waitrose and the staff are lovely. The food is good too!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 02/10/2019 08:07

My local Waitrose always seems so calm compared to other supermarkets.
However I will never forget the member of staff in Sainsbury's who saw me struggling with a bolting toddler and newborn who screamed unless I was holding him. She took charge of my trolley, unpacked everything into the till, then packed all my bags and put them back in the trolley. All I had to do was pay!
And I did fill in a customer comment thingy online praising her. Saved my sanity she did.

@unrealitystar

That is so lovely. Thank you for sharing Smile

Trooperslaneagain · 02/10/2019 08:11

Sainsbury's staff tried to pay for my shopping when I was totally sleep deprived and though I had lost my purse - called the café I'd just been in to try and find it - it was under my shopping Confused

Trooperslaneagain · 02/10/2019 08:11

BustedDreams · 02/10/2019 08:26

What a lovely story! Well done Waitrose!
