Parking

Does anyone have a problem with parking outside their house, me and my husband have a problem parking outside our house because of the school run parents and teachers or visitors to the school parking outside our house. I realise people have top drop children off to school and pick them up but when they park awkward or stay outside your house talking this is a problem.

I have an issue with the cars that park and put their wing mirrors in and you know they will be there all day especially when you see them going to the school as the car park isn't big enough for visitors.

We have spoken to the council and they have asked us to start a petition and put it in to the council for them tog then investigate.

Thanks for listening to me moan.

You must have known living near a school would be like that.

DriftingLeaves · 01/10/2019 11:19

Maybe she didn't realise that a lot of parents are inconsiderate fuckers and think nothing of parking illegally. What a stupid response.

Oldbutstillgotit · 01/10/2019 11:19

Are there yellow lines ? If not there isn’t much you can do unless they park across your drive .

KnifeAngel · 01/10/2019 11:24

@DriftingLeaves there is nothing in the OP that implies they are parking illegally. They are parking outside the OP's house which she objects to.

bananallamas · 01/10/2019 11:39

If they have parked legally then they are perfectly entitled to stand around chatting before/after drop off. Same if people are staying all day, yes it's annoying but they aren't doing anything wrong.

It's a different matter if they are blocking your drive or parking on double yellow lines though.

eenymeenyminyme · 01/10/2019 11:44

What exactly is it they're they doing that you're moaning about?

Parking outside your house? There's nothing you can do, as long as the car is taxed then they can park it anywhere unless dangerously or illegally parked.

Standing and chatting? Really? I think you're going to be hard pushed to get anyone to sign a petition against that! But good luck!

DriftingLeaves · 01/10/2019 11:49

Gather your neighbours together and do what we did.

Everyone in the lane parked on the road so there was nowhere for the parents to park. We kept it up until they learned to park elsewhere, like the church car park 100 yards down the lane or the pub car park 200 yards away.

Every so often they sneak back so we all park on the lane again for a while.

This was started by a wonderful neighbour who was sick of the selfishness of the parents and one refused to move so an ambulance could collect a neighbour for a hospital appointment.

They thought nothing of zig zag lines or dropped kerbs in their search for the shortest route for their preciouses.

Winesalot · 01/10/2019 11:56

oh fab! I love a parking thread. It feeds my soul!!

I too live across the road from a school and have to cope with errant parkers. However, they are parking across my dropped kerb and recently the council has put in double yellow lines and they still do it!!!

Yes, I expected to have lots of noise, which does not bother me even though I work at home. But the CF parkers were not expected, nor was the abuse when you ask them if they realise that they are illegally parking and to not do it again.

But, from all of my research, if you do not have a dropped kerb or lines, or permit parking, or it is a private road, they are well within their rights to park there.
Have you checked it out with the council?

Winesalot · 01/10/2019 12:01

Sorry, just saw you have spoken to the council. Good luck with the petition. I hope that you get something sorted.

DriftingLeaves · 01/10/2019 12:08

If they cause an obstruction they can be given tickets, even if there are no yellow lines. Our local PCSOs do it regularly. They have to leave room for a fire engine to get past or for a wheelchair to get past on the pavement.

AmIThough · 01/10/2019 12:13

How often do you come home and need to park during school run hours?

Winesalot · 01/10/2019 12:21

@DriftingLeaves That is true if they are parked and causing obstruction (egtoo far from the kerb) or are parked on the footpath or over a pedestrian dropped kerb etc. But I did not read this so maybe I missed it. Surely though, the council could have parking officers to ticket these and deter people from doing it? They certainly will in my area, but I am in London.

Drogosnextwife · 01/10/2019 12:23

You haven't been on MN long have you OP? 😂

DeadBod · 01/10/2019 12:25

It's the same here and it's a pain in the arse. I moved here 20+ years ago and this wasn't a problem at all. Since moving in, the school and college down the road have expanded and now cause no end of issues.
It's rare that I can park outside my house during term time which can be troublesome with a boot full of shopping.
The council are well aware of the problems and don't seem to be doing anything. The local councillor is also aware. One neighbour has tried putting letters on windscreens and I'm sure you can guess how effective that it. I can't see any solution.

SuzieBishop · 01/10/2019 12:48

Surely it’s better for people to be parking somewhere where they’re allowed than on the zig zags outside of the school. Unfortunately you don’t own the road outside of your house OP.

sproutsandparsnips · 01/10/2019 12:59

Can you get residents parking? Then people could park for drop off for up to an hour but not all day.

Soola · 01/10/2019 13:28

Get the chalks out and draw a giant 3D pot hole/abyss outside your house.

Parking
Sirzy · 01/10/2019 13:32

So they aren’t blocking any drives or anything just parked outside your house but perfectly legally?

Winesalot · 01/10/2019 13:46

@Soola That is classic!!!

TheresAFuckOverThere · 01/10/2019 14:34

Are they blocking driveways or just parking outside your house?
