Is it normal not to have a change of bed linen in a holiday apartment rented for 2 weeks? we

DP and I are in a rented apartment in Spain for a fortnight. It's a lovely place, but the owners haven't supplied a change of bed linen or towels (less bothered about the towels, tbh, as it's easier to wash and dry them as we go along).
I was so surprised not to find a change of bedclothes that I thought I must have overlooked them in a drawer somewhere. But I texted the owners, who confirmed no change of linen is supplied. They just pointed out that use of the washing machine is free. (No free washing powder, though Grin)
Would you expect a change of bed linen during a 2 week stay?

In a hotel yes, in a holiday let no.

I'd expect a few fresh towels though...

Leftielefterson · 30/09/2019 21:44

I rent out an apartment in Spain and we have 2 sets. If clean linen and lots of towels. Standard I thought.

AnxiousMcAnxiousFace · 30/09/2019 21:44

It wouldn’t even cross my mind to be honest!

NoParticularPattern · 30/09/2019 21:47

I wouldn’t expect them to be changed for me, but I’d expect there to at least be a spare set should the need arise for an emergency bed change or to change during the holiday if you wanted to. Like you say there’s a washing machine, you can wash it yourselves, but I’d not want to spend the whole day doing laundry when it would be much easier to stick a fresh set on and Chuck the others in the wash to be sorted out later in the day

Billballbaggins · 30/09/2019 21:47

I wouldn’t expect a change in a holiday let, nope. As you say you have the use of a washing machine.

Yerroblemom1923 · 30/09/2019 21:50

Wouldn't expect change of bedding but towels yes. Guess they don't want to make extra washing for themselves.

Justgivemesomepeace · 30/09/2019 21:51

I've just come back from Marbella. No towels changed in 10 days. There was a spare set of bedding in the wardrobe if we wanted to change it. We had to buy washing powder and do the washing ourselves. No one emptied the bins. We had to use carrier bags from the supermarket and take them to communal bins. It was self catering apartments on a complex. We wont be returning. We always stay in self catering on complexes and the apartments have always been serviced so we didnt expect it.

dementedpixie · 30/09/2019 21:52

Do you have somewhere to hang wet washing? Surely a spare set should be available so you can change it if required

PrincessFiorimonde · 30/09/2019 21:53

Oops, sorry about the random extra 'we' in the title!
It's not the end of the world to take sheets off the bed, wash and dry them, and remake the bed. Though there's nowhere to dry anything if it should rain.
But anywhere else I've stayed in a 2 week rental has provided spare bed linen.

We have been in a villa in spain a couple of times and there has been a towel/bedding change mid stay (2 week holiday).

JoyceJeffries · 30/09/2019 21:54

It’s pretty skanky.

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/09/2019 21:54

No, I wouldn't, I don't expect to have anyone come in during the stay and I can't say I'd look for a spare set.

JoJoSM2 · 30/09/2019 21:55

I’d find sleeping in sheets for 2 weeks without washing gross. It would make sense to give you another set if there isn’t a dryer. If there’s a dryer and it’s cheap accommodation, then I’m not surprised you’re expected to wash things yourselves.

saraclara · 30/09/2019 21:55

Depends on the type of accommodation. We stayed in any 'aparthotel' once where servicing was included. But normal self catering apartments, nope. We did our own cleaning and bin emptying and didn't bother about the bed linen.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 30/09/2019 21:57

Yes, I absolutely would expect clean bed linen to be available in a two week stay! Can't believe other people wouldn't expect it?

Very often we stay in places where someone comes to change the bed linen and towels half way through the stay. But even if there is no housekeeping service I would definitely expect clean linen to be there in the cupboards or drawers.

daisypond · 30/09/2019 21:59

No, I wouldn’t.

IdblowJonSnow · 30/09/2019 22:02

Yes I agree, it's a bit swanky. Especially in a warmer country where you'd be sweatier than here!
It's a bit of an oversight on their part as what if someone was ill/wet the bed/got their period - it happens!

Costacoffeeplease · 30/09/2019 22:07

Absolutely. We used to have holiday apartments and provided a towel change and maid service midweek, then a towel and bed change after a week, and a 3rd towel change in the middle of the last week so in a fortnight you’d see the maid 3 times, with one bed change and 3 towel changes (plus a clean set when you arrive)

PrincessFiorimonde · 30/09/2019 22:07

I'm not expecting anyone to come in and change sheets and towels! It's a private apartment rented through a well known agency, and we expect to empty bins, keep the place clean, etc. Just thought that spare bedding and towels would be provided.

OP posts:
Chloemol · 30/09/2019 22:22

No, we have never been anywhere that does a change of bed linen after a week

PrincessFiorimonde · 01/10/2019 09:31

It's interesting how opinions differ.
Thank you for all your comments.

We own a holiday let in Spain, if people want a change of linen they can either use the washing machine or contact the management company who will do it for a fee

cinderellainyellakissedafella · 01/10/2019 09:35

Unless you 💩 or puke 🤮 on the sheets, don't worry about it. Or buy washing powder.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/10/2019 09:37

We stay in apartments in Spain a lot and the times we've stayed more than a week, there's always been at least one bed linen change, plus plenty of towels. Sometimes there's been a midweek change on a one week stay.

Even self catering I wouldn't expect to have to change the bed myself or sleep for more than a week on the same sheets.

I wouldn't expect a dryer though, but we've always had a balcony and an airer, which is all you need in southern Spain or Canaries for much of the year.

NearlyGranny · 01/10/2019 09:52

I would definitely expect a change of linen for the second week! I would either expect cleaner to come in and do the linen change - including towels! - and a clean around like a regular changeover, or at the very least to find a spare set ready.

I wouldn't mind washing sheets and towels I guess but I'd expect laundry detergent.

It sounds a bit mean to me
